I've only started watching Star Wars four years ago (and I have no excuse like "not being born yet" when the first three movies came out
). But I had a period when I decided to catch up with popular movies (godfather trilogy, star wars, star trek) to understand references made about them in newer films. Anyway I'm glad I did, even if it's just to not make me feel like an alien when someone mentions the movie and I go "I don't know what you're talking about".

I suggest the same order only because the surprise in 6 is one of the things I liked about it. If I watched 1-3 first, the info would would not have the same effect. Unless you already know what I'm talking about even before watching it. In that case, go watch it chronologically 1-6.
