Ron, I suspect we all feel similarly, especially at first. Every once in a while, we hear about an author who just sat down (supposedly) and wrote a fantastic novel. I don't think that is true for most of us. Robert Penn Warren worked and worked at his writing, but then he produced "All the King's Men," which I happen to think is one of the finest 20th century novels. I do not like to read short stories, so I have difficultly getting interested in writing them. However, I made myself do it for a creative writing class and was offered assistance in getting them published. (Didn't do it. Long end-of-marriage saga.)
But poetry. That is a different kettle of fish, because it is spurred by emotion rather than intellect.
Just keep on keeping on. Keep producing and keeping putting them out there.
