Question Why should I keep my HTML or XHTML clean?

What are the benefits and curses of keeping my HTML or XHTML clean? Should I code with HTML or jump to XHTML? I notice that they are:

* Strict
* Transitional and
* Frameset

What's best to stick with and what to toss in the trash?

Thanks a bunch,

Steve

I find that the cleaner the code, the better chance it has of appearing correctly on different browsers.

I suggest moving to XHTML if you can. It's the new wave of the internet. Why not jump on now while it's still new.

I'll jump on board right now. :) Also, thanks for your recent post called "How clean is your XHTML code?"
It gave me a few sites to look at and I notice that they were using Transitional over Strict and Frameset.

Oh! I was going to try to find that post and link to it but I forgot. Glad you found it. That is a great tool. I can't say I've used it much yet but on future sites I plan to run everything through that filter to catch the errors.
