Manny Wants To Retire With Red Sox, But Won't Ask For 2009 Option

AP - Manny Ramirez wants to finish his career with the Red Sox but doesn’t plan to ask the club to pick up his option for 2009, according to an Associated Press report.

After leaving the batting cage Thursday, Ramirez said that he doesn’t plan to ask the Red Sox for an extension since they hold his option, and it’s up to them to approach him.

“I want to stay here, but it’s up to them if they want to bring me,” he said. “But if they don’t want to bring me back, that’s fine. I know I’ll be a free agent after ‘08 so that’s another thing that I’m looking forward (to).”

The left fielder is in the last year of an eight-year contract. Beyond that, the team has options for the next two seasons at $20 million each.

Manny Ramirez is one of the best players in the league, and he's a big reason why the Red Sox has won two World Series, not picking up his option would be stupid in my opinion.

Hopefully they pick up the option for this season and he plays out one more year with the Sox.
