Google leaked some news about an upcoming online classifieds system they are working on. It looks like it could be a major threat to eBay. Why is that?

Simple. Because it's FREE!

That's right, it appears that Google will be using their massive database of Adwords subscribers to pitch text advertisements to people searching for items on "Google Base." The advertisers get their ads served, and the people posting classified ads don't pay a dime. The cost will be absorbed by advertisers interested in targeting the users of Google's newest venture.

All in all, a very nice idea. I think this really could be a huge problem for eBay... but that's business for you.
