New eBay policy:

Although this is specificly about Featured Home Page auctions, I've got a feeling that this will affect alot of the HP auctions on the pulse:

-----------------------------------------------------------
June 28, 2005 | 04:16PM PST/PT

Last week at eBay Live! 2005, Bill Cobb, President of eBay North America, announced a new policy for listings featured on eBay's home page using the Home Page Featured listing upgrade. Due to their high visibility, we want to make sure that listings being promoted on the home page maintain the credibility of the marketplace and do not harm the eBay brand.

Effective immediately, eBay reserves the right to remove any Home Page Featured listing that we determine at our discretion may hurt the credibility of the marketplace or harm the eBay brand, even if the listing otherwise complies with eBay policy. Specific prohibitions include listings that make certain claims about health, body, weight or beauty products (such as weight loss products that make specific claims, breast enlargement supplements, etc.).

For more information on the types of listings that are not eligible for Home Page Featured upgrades, please visit the Home Page Featured Policy page.
---------------------------------------------------------

If you "harm the eBay brand" you're gonna get pulled. Its anybody's guess as to who is the eBay brand guru.

Well, I guess if you are selling baby clothes, antiques, jewelry or kitchen appliances you are safe.

I don't think they will let me list my "Beautiful White Ceramic Rooster and Penn Racquetballs". Hmmmm... What's wrong with that? :ooh:

Well, expect there to be NOTHING from the bizarre category on the pulse anymore. That's sort of sad, because really, that bizarre category has probably brought millions of ppl to ebay to spend money on antiques, toner, christmas ornaments and purses (although they could start buying all mine)

I would have to agree with ebay.

Any respectable site wouldnt want:
"my hubby's cock and balls"
OR
'Trim my bush"

on there front page. Im sorry, but thats basic borderline porn as you can get.

ebay wont be screwed until they screw the normal auctioneer

Yeah, even though trim my bush sounds like a kinda funny auction title. (Did you make that up or see it on ebay?), there's no way I'd allow that on the front page of a site of mine. Personally, I think this is the 1st step towards an "ebay brand" czar. They have declared they have power to can an auction at their descretion. At least before they would come up with some off the way reason. Guess we will see if it works out for the best or not.
