I learned how to drive and took my driving test in a 1985 standard ford tempo. It was 10 years old at the time I started to learn to drive.
I blew out the shift-linkage on it when I hit 180km/h lol.

Automatic is the easier choice, which most people choose, but I would rather drive the harder of the two, to get the feel of it.

I can't drive standard but I'm gonna go for standard. Almost no one drives automatic in the Netherlands and if you do, you just get ridiculed.
I've driven automatic cars before and it's a bit too easy just like scooters. I prefer manual transmission in engine powered vehicles.

Depends, when I drive a standard I go by feel and sound alone so it's harder to listen to loud music (which I love to do) And I hate feeling out of control of my own vehicle, so that's why I have both.

My first 3 cars were stick-shifts, I do miss driving those, but it's a bit easier to have the automatic with the kids.

I have always driven a manual as we call it in the UK, tried an automatic some years ago but never could get used to it. So i prefer the manual motors, Love the gear change process.

No lie I was at a gas station once and a guy came up in a Corvette. Started talking to him about it (huge Vette fan here) and I asked him why he got the automatic and not the manual. He told me "because I don't like the hassle of shifting gears." My jaw dropped. Who buy a performance car and then gets and automatic because it's a "hassle" to shift? That made no sense to me. When you buy a Corvette it isn't a hassle. It's a pleasure to shift each gear as you hammer down onto the accelerator. Stupid people in this world...

I've always driven an automatic vehicle, I've never tried to drive a standard and right now I don't care to much about learning how to drive in a standard vehicle. I also prefer driving trucks over cars, so there's not to many stardard trucks out there.
