Animal Farm

I had this for a summer reading assignment. It isn't too long, but It feels like 1984 mixed with Of Mice and Men. It was good, just not my style.

I don't think there are many 8th graders that are able to appreciate Orwells writings in Animal Farm for their political statements. It's a book that I highly recommend. If you read it in grade school, you should read it again when you're a little older to gain a fuller understanding of the underlying theme.

I doubt many middle school students know what satirical allegory is, yet alone be able to recognize it. The historical implications of the book and how it mirrors the events of the Russian revolution are lost on the very young. They tend to see it as a complex Charolettes web instead of an indictment on Socialism.

It is a really ingenious book. Though at the time of my first reading it i thought it was pure asscake. =\

Now i had to re read it in 11 grade US history class, and i was like ohhh.

It's a book that I feel that although it's not beyond a middle school students reading comprehension level, it's one that's meaning gets lost. That's a shame too because the most notable message that's to be taken from the book is one that we see in our everyday lives. "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

When I first read the book and saw the moviem, Iwas like uhhh wall looks like this was a Disney movie that got out of hand lol. Then I took summer school and had to read it again, I found it one of the most creative books I have ever read. I think having 8th grade read it is dumb because Alot of people I talk to that read it in 8th say they ether don't remember it of did not really get it but loved watching the animals get hung.

Animal Farm is one of my favorite books. You can read it in a day, and its compelling and chilling and thought-provoking all at once. I'll always remember "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."

Animal Farm is ok. I read it with more enjoyment than most of the other books I was forced to read in English. I have to agree with nanite though, that is one of the best lines in literature.
