Gods Behaving Badly

Aphrodite is a phone sex operator...
Artemis is a professional dog walker
Apollo is a TV psychic
and Zeus sits in front of the TV all day.

The Greek Gods powers are waning as they share a London town house. So what happens when Apollo starts a fight with Aphrodite and soon the whole world is nearing its end?

Just finished it. AWESOME book. Hilarious and a very good read. ^^

The author is Marie Phillips

Good book. Terry Pratchett wrote it with Neil Gaiman, though, who also wrote a book called American Gods. It too involved ancient gods trying to get by in the modern world (does that concept qualify as a sub-genre yet? ). I'd recommend that one, but someone who wants to become familiar with Neil Gaiman's work would be better off reading the Sandman comics, which are simply fantastic (and also involve gods of various mythologies in a modern setting, come to think of it...).

Supposedly they wrote their parts alone in the hours they usually work. And then put it together in the few hours they were both awake (and miserably tired). It's a really good read.

Sandman is another curious collection of stories and styles. Gaiman writes the story- boards, sometimes very briefly - and then others draw and ink. So while the stories develop sometimes at a slow deliberate pace, you're often forced to see the pictures as just backdrops to the tale. And over to the total opposite again, where the images drive the entire narrative alone. And that can be a bit strange. For example when a story at the one end of the book- pile serves as a canvas for a particular event happening hundreds of years and pages away.

But it's also a good read.
