Yes, this thread is about the totally amazing author who wrote the best selling book, Speak.

It follows Melinda Sordino's freshman year of high school. During some mishap that happened over the summer, she became isolated and the most despised person in school. Through the book you find out what happens and how she finally learns to 'speak.'

(I've read this book at least 9 times if that gives you an indication of how much it kicks ass!)

Fever 1793 is another book that she wrote. This story is set in during the fever epidemic in Philadelphia in 1793. The fever wiped out about 10% of the population. It follows 16 year old Mattie Cook as she finds people close to her dieing or disappearing as the fever turns everything upside down. She deals with the decline of the city as the fever tears down everyone's moral as more people are dieing and being left on the ground to be picked up later.

(Great book as well, I've read it about 3 or 4 times)

Catalyst is a very moving books. It follows Kate Malone, the preacher's daughter. The one who makes good grades, runs for track, and is expected to be polite no matter what. On the inside she is still getting over her mother dieing, trying to get into her college of choice, MIT, and balancing taking care of her family. She runs at night to get away from everything. But when MIT rejects her, she finds herself falling apart. A fire burns down the house of the despised Terri Litch and her younger brother, Mikey. Causing them to live with Kate and her family. They slowly help her shed the shell she used to suppress the pain of her mom's death.

(Love it. I have a copy, too. Read it about 5 times.)

Her next book is Prom. This one takes another route, one filled with laughing, condoms, the police, and shot glasses. In this one, Ashley could care less about prom. She doesn't plan on going, never has, never will. But then one of the teacher's at the school steals from the prom funds, so it has to be canceled. Ashley thinks that they could have it in the gym, so now with less than a few weeks, they have to come up with decorations, music, food, drinks, and the whole nine yards with even less money.

(This book is pretty good, I've read it like twice.)

And last but not least, is her newest book, Twisted. This one shows what it's like to be a man in today's society. How his father puts so much pressure on him and everyone expects him to be one way or another. Usually something he's not. So he gets caught putting graffiti on his school and as punishment he spends his summer doing outdoor work. So when he comes back to school, he looks totally different than before. Soon his secret crush starts noticing him and his enemy since day one becomes even worse. Especially since his crush is his enemy's sister.

She is a very talented author. Seriously, check out some of her books.
