Unhappy Michael Crichton Dead at 66

Wow.. just wow. My favorite author has died.

FOXNews.com - Author Michael Crichton Dead at 66 - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment

Michael Crichton for those of you who don't know who he is, is the author of books such as Jurassic Park, the Andromeda Strain, Sphere, Timeline, etc.

He was also the creator and one of the writers of the show E.R.

The world has lost a great author.

I am shocked that he died at such a young age. I was a big fan of his Rising Sun.

He was a good author.

I've never read his books but I know that Crichton = Jurrasic Park series, which I liked. I didn't even know he wrote Disclosure.

What I find shocking is the fact that they were able to keep that quiet for so long. I saw that headline on my yahoo page and I did a double take because I knew that had to be a gag somewhere.

He's going to miss the upcoming movie Jurassic Park 4 also. It is largely based on events described in his book "The Lost World" that never made it into the 2nd movie. It's expected to actually be pretty decent.

This also makes me wonder if he was dealing with cancer when he wrote his latest book "Embryo" which dealt a lot with medical and health related issues.

In Memoriam

Michael Crichton

1942 - 2008

Best-selling author Michael Crichton died unexpectedly in Los Angeles Tuesday, November 4, 2008 after a courageous and private battle against cancer.

While the world knew him as a great story teller that challenged our preconceived notions about the world around us -- and entertained us all while doing so -- his wife Sherri, daughter Taylor, family and friends knew Michael Crichton as a devoted husband, loving father and generous friend who inspired each of us to strive to see the wonders of our world through new eyes. He did this with a wry sense of humor that those who were privileged to know him personally will never forget.

Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand.

He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world.

Michael's family respectfully asks for privacy during this difficult time.

A private funeral service is expected, but no further details will be released to the public.
