I know, you just have to let them come to you. In fact I'm about to create a document with all of my story ideas. I just came up with a badass Alice in Wonderland twist today while working on my pot in ceramics.

Really, the most important thing for an aspiring writer to do is write. A person simply isn't going to be inspired all the time, though it is great when you are. Sitting around and waiting for some brilliant story to pop into your mind is counter-productive for people with serious writing aspirations, insofar as it gets in the way of actually sitting down and pounding out words. If you read up on how successful fiction writers became as much, it was from dedication and a love of the act of writing itself.
Just something to keep in mind.

I couldn't agree more. If you train yourself to write something everyday then you'll write everyday. If you sit around waiting for 'inspiration' to hit then you'll do a lot of sitting around and not get much writing done.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking inspiration. It's just that if one plans on writing professionally then you've got to treat it professionally. Professional writers can't afford to wait for inspiration to hit since she's an awfully fickle mistress and she may not want to strike you that day and may go on to hit the writer that lives down the block from you.
It's entirely upto you how you do this, but they HAVE to be there for you're plot to make any sense whatsoever. But the best plots have a way to break these conventions in a way that still makes sense.
