Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Book?

all time favorite book... I have a tough time pinning that one down. I really like The Count of Monte Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. That's probably it. Also, anything written by John Steinbeck is particularly good.

My favorite book would have to be Good Omens.

It could have been worse than you would ever know...
The room at the top of the tower is empty.
The good times are killing me.
That's a sandwhich of Dark Tower and Modest mouse right there.

Thumbs up Re: What's Your All-Time Favorite Book?

One of the best books I have read was The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Adam Douglas. The movie was horrible, but the book is funny and unlike any other books I have read. Stephen King has good books as well...

Then, you should like Venus on the Half-Shell by Kilgore Trout.

No... No, he shouldn't. People like the Hitch Hiker's Guide because of its... strange humor. From what I hear about Venus on the Half Shell, its humor sucks compared to the Hitch Hiker's Guide. Douglas Adams may have taken some ideas, but he sure as hell wrote the better book.

That same "strange humor" is in Venus. Plus, since you haven't read it, you shouldn't judge it.

I have a very credible source of information on Venus on the Half Shell. The guy who I'm hearing this from would not lie to me. He has so many morals it gets annoying.

Of course, you have no way of proving this. I will tell you this: when it comes to issues like this, taste is based on opinion and opinions vary from person to person. One may claim that they have similar taste where they may not. Your friend may have put you under the impression that you may not like it, but you will never know until you have read it.

That said, since you haven't read Venus, you have no way of knowing whether or not you may like that book less than HGTTG. You need to realize this, rather than make excuses. So, please. Come out from behind your "credible source" and read the book for yourself. Unless, of course, you're afraid of discovering what myself and others already know.

You wil be waiting a long time. I have two other books that are of a higher priority.

As long as there is a book that challenges your belief that HGTTG is groundbreaking and original, I can guarantee that you'll never read it.
