Inventing CardGames

Just yesterday I came up with a new way to us UNO cards. I developed a type of solitaire to play with them, using the reverse, stop and pickup cards. It's somewhat complicated, and so I won't try to explain it here, but it's pretty cool. Just last spring, me and one of the youth that attend the youth group that I'm a leader at, created a fun two player card game similiar to speed, but with solitaire functionality. (ie, cards in order, alternate color etc).

Once I finish the write-up of Unotaire I'll post it in here, until then, let's hear about your invented card games. Any cool ideas? Something you wish had been invented?

Interesting. I'd like to hear the rules for the game you invented. It is easier or harder than normal solitaire?

I've invented a few card games but they are mostly poker related.

One I like is similar to Texas Holdem but it starts like 5 card draw.

You get 5 cards and can trade 2 in, or 3 if you show an ace.

Then the game goes to betting rounds. Each round you have to lay one of your cards down face up. You can pick which card and in which order.

The idea is to make people think you have a straight, or something decent.

It's kind of like 7 card stud. There are 5 betting rounds.

I may end up weighing 500lbs but I'll still find a way to pull it off sexily at the nudist colony. ~ysabel

well, it's similiar to spider solitaire in that the stacks of cards must all be the same suit, or in UNO's case, color. You draw cards from the deck, and pile them onto the stacks on the table, in descending order (8,7,6). if you draw a reverse card, it goes on the stack of the same color, and numbers have to start going backwards (ie, 8,7,6,Reverse,7,8) since there's two of each color, then that works. Wilds either replace a card you don't have, or let you change the color of a stack in the middle (8, wild, 6 or red 8, wild, blue 7, blue 6), miss a turn cards are stop cards, meaning if you draw one, you have to put it on the stack of the same color, and nothing, except for a wild can be put on top of it.

some funky stacks as you play through that you can get could be (red9,red8,...,red2,reverse,wild,blue3,blue4,blues top,wild,green8,green9)etc.

It isn't complicated so much as it's time consuming. It is possible to win, but not all the time. if you work through the draw pile once without being able to play a single card from it, then you lose, as long as you can keep playing a card from it, then you win.

I'll have to do up a proper writeup of it though, just to help people understand it.

I think I made sense of that. I'd have to find an old UNO deck to try it out.

I don't think it has to be possible to win every time anyway though. I know with normal solitaire you can lose so I think that's pretty normal. The annoying thing is when you don't have a chance from early on though.

No no, even regular solitaire, there is always a way to win every round. It's not all based on luck. If you screw up at some point in time, even subtley, then you will probably lose. I've won and lost my game equal amounts of time.

It probably won't work out for you to start trying it quite yet, I haven't explained the whole thing. And the writeup I have partially written up right now is for use with two regular decks of cards put together.

I didn't realize you can win any Solitaire game.. I've actually lost early on and I don't think it was because of bad stacking. Hmm. I'll have to play it some more and see if maybe I just have been making mistakes early on.

I invented your life. Does that count?

I used to play my own card games all the time, when I was a kid. It was more fun than regular cards.
