I agree with the R-rating. One of my friends is planning on taking her 6-year-old stepson to see it, and I think that's a big mistake.
Great review, Derrick.

Having the movie listed as Rated-R isn't going to stop parents from taking underage kids to the show, as shown by this example. PG-13 movie and she's bringing a 6 year old. I saw countless young children, parents arn't going to follow the rating anyway, and this movie really wasn't that bad.
It was more complex than most movies, and truly delved into the psychology powerhouse that joker was, but it really wasn't that bad.
I agree with Hybrix and Constantine sorry.
But great review :)

Parents are going to do whatever they want with their kids and hey, if they want to take their 6 year olds to see THE DARK KNIGHT that's their business.
Me, I can't see anything in THE DARK KNIGHT that would interest a 6 year old. Maybe people are raising really mature 6 year olds these days. If it was up to me I wouldn't let a child younger than 12 see THE DARK KNIGHT.

I agree with you there. There are plenty of other movies for the kids. I can see what you mean by the movie being boring to kids. I was on the edge of my seat but kids won't like all the backstory development, character development, etc. They just want to see action.

Ratings are merely warnings, nothing else. Some ratings don't even reflect all too well in the film. Bottom line Jeanie and Ferg is that PG-13 is just fine because there's no blood or gore, only a brief two second image of Bruce's cut arm, and . . well I can't think of any "curse" language. It was simply a "dark" story and probably scary to a good amount of kids under 13. The only rating that ever really sways people is NC-17.

I agree, this doesn't deserve an 'R' rating.
I think a large part of the problem is so many movies that get a PG-13 label, but should probably be PG. Parents get used to movies rated PG-13 being okay for their kids.

What time was the showing you went to? That may have been a large factor too...

I really can't see how anything in THE DARK KNIGHT would appeal to a kid under the age of 12 or so. It's not like "Batman & Robin" which has a lot of bright, splashy neon colors and there's always some eye candy on the screen to keep their attention.

Yeah I agree. Kids will say they want to go because "Batman is cool" and all but when they finally sit down and watch it they will find themselves thinking "A little less conversation a little more action please", if you know what I mean.

i haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. I agree that it should be rated what it is, PG-13 not R.
