In a way I'm really surprise that Bale got so many votes, don't get me wrong. I believe Christian Bale did a good job in Batman Begins, but when I usually discuss with my who is the best Batman they usually say Michael Keaton because a lot of people think the first Batman is the best Batman ever.
But with that being said I think after Dark Knight comes out, almost everyone will say that Bale is the best Batman actor ever.

"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Babe Ruth

I don't know, I didn't like the first couple Batman movies that much. I was definitely entertained by them with Nicholson as the Joker and all and I've seen them loads of times, but Keaton was just a very dry and uninteresting Bruce Wayne. Val Kilmer was even worse.
Another reason I didn't like the old Batman's was that I always wished I had more insight on Bruce Wayne other than the typical "his parents got killed and he's loathing" scenario. It stopped there and I just wish there was more to it. Plus the dry acting didn't help with his character either.
Bale is at the moment my favorite Batman actor because he made me empathize with Bruce Wayne. He made me care about the character.

It's a matter of opinion, of course. When I was watching Begins, it was the first time, out of all the comic book movies, that I really felt like the character on the screen was the same one as in the comics. There are a few moments in the movie that break the flow ("I don't have to save you" -ugh!), but otherwise it was like Bale was channeling the O'Neil/Adams/Aparo Batman I grew up with.

I've only read a couple of the new Batman graphic novels that have come out. I'm not familiar with the old series so maybe in that way Bale may come off as a classic.
To me though he represents how "Batman Begins" has restarted the saga and has made Bruce Wayne/Batman become more alive as a character to the audience.
I actually like that line in Begins. One of the lines I really don't like is the "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me". It's more cheesy than I care for, too childish for the movie and its just used as a plot device.

i thought bale was the best, but it did get some getting used to his batman voice. i think clooney was just a victim of an incredibly crappy movie. he has a good voice for batman.

It just seems very unheroic. Picking and choosing who he tries to save is just a step away from becoming an executioner. That's a line Batman shouldn't cross.

I agree that line is rather cheesy. It's only there for the love interest and the movie would have been just as good without that.

He's not picking and choosing who he tries to save. It's a question of "doing what is necessary", like Liam Nelson's character said and Batman realizes that he doesn't have to kill him in order to defeat him and he doesn't need to save him either.
