I can see what you mean about Franco looking like a young Magneto. I like him as an actor, I'd say he was perhaps the most likable character in Spider-man 3. However that would put him in two Marvel movies and I think Marvel are trying to create the whole "universe" thing they've got going on in the comics. So Iron man can pop up in Hulk etc so it may be a bit too much of a clash to cast him.
Yeah I know what you mean Altan. That's why I don't think it would happen which I think is unfortunate. You do have to remember that Hugh Jackman played both Wolverine AND Van Helsing though. Van Helsing isn't a huge comic character as far as I know but he makes appearances in comics from time to time.
A lot of comic book movie characters have been or will be replaced by other actors too. I think fans can accept that continuity is not always easy or worth it.
And there are a few ways of keeping with continuity here. They can choose a young actor who looks somewhat like Mckellen, or they can recast Magneto completely, which would be breaking continuity in itself.
James Franco has been in some really good stuff and is very versatile as an actor. I think he would do a really good job as a young Magneto. I can't think of anybody else who I could see playing the part at the moment but feel free to toss out ideas if you have them. I always find cast ideas interesting.
I may end up weighing 500lbs but I'll still find a way to pull it off sexily at the nudist colony. ~ysabel
I actually dreamt last night that I was watching this film and James Franco was cast as one of Magneto's friends but then the film changed into Superman so I was like "oh it's ok, it's a DC movie". Congrats on influencing my subconscious Hybrix
