Carrey might be TOO comical for the part though. The newer Batman movies have been darker and more serious. I don't know how Jim Carrey would work in the mix.
It doesn't have to be Depp either. I do think the Riddler would be a good choice though as long as they found somebody to deliver a knock out performance.
The Riddler is supposed to be a very smart person who originally goes to Wayne Enterprises and tries to sell a mind contorlling drug of some sort that he came up with. The person to play him would need to be able to come across as very educated and very mathmatical. Somebody who can play complex games (riddles) with people.
Some other options that I think could work well:
Sean Bean: Maybe just maybe. He's played some twisted bad guys before and he can come across as very educated and intelligent in his roles as well. He's also the man.
Edward Norton: Again, maybe. He did just play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk so he might have ruined his chances at being in any other superhero movies for a while. He is amazing though and plays bad guys well.
Matt Damon: Could work. He's very talented as an actor. This role would challenge him a bit but he could pull it off. He also has the stunt work down from doing he Bourne movies.
Adrien Brody: Could work. I haven't seen him play a bad guy yet but I'm sure he could. He has a look that could work well for the Riddler and also isn't TOO popular as to overshadow some of the other actors. Might be a good pick in that sense.
Johnny Depp: I'm putting Depp on this list just because I know he could pull it off. I've seen a ton of his movies and he can be a character actor when he needs to. He could make the Riddler character a normal person in one scene and a mind twisting maniac in another. He'd be my #1 choice for the Riddler if they use Riddler in the next Batman.
Now if they use another villain instead of the Riddler then I'm sure most of my picks won't apply but maybe. Some of them might even work better for another villain. Who knows.
