I've been thinking, and I got to thinking that they should do a version of The Long Halloween for the next film.
Think about it, it'll get his detective skills in there, have a good villian, and possibly get it as the last movie. Look the **** up, I don't feel like explaining in detail, but it's basically about this dude that does crimes at every holiday and it's ****ing good. Not to mention that the guy that wrote BB and TDK, said it's one of his screenwriting aspiriations.
The article raises a good idea. What about Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin? He played the bad guy in the recent Mission Impossible III (and loads of other movies). I could totally see him as the Penguin.
That doesn't mean Two-Face isn't dead, BUT, who knows, it wouldn't be hard to write him back into the script. Not too hard at all.
I think there are plenty of options to consider for a third film and I hope Nolan takes his time and thinks this through carefully. I think this "trilogy" has the potential to break the curse of the bad 3rd movie that has happened to so many comic book based movies (and trilogies in general).
So, Two-Face MAYBE coming back for the 3rd. That could work.
But, Batman has no love interest now that Rachel is dead. What about bringing Catwoman into the 3rd? Maybe.
I've been reading discussions about the next Batman villain people want to see and all over the internet people are calling for a Johnny Depp Riddler as the main villain. He's one of the few people who could take the role and twist it into amazement, much like Ledger did with the Joker. Nolan won't do a 3rd unless he thinks it will top 2. That only means 1 thing to me. Johnny Depp must play the Riddler.
Let's do this. Maybe Christopher Nolan will end up seeing this. After all I'm sure they'll do some scouting.

Holiday would make a really good villain, this is true. what if they did a serial killer thing, with Holiday and Zsasz?
oh, and what about Anarky? I think that could be really cool, too, but only if done right. it might be hard for them to make a kid that creepy though.
at this point though, I really would have to say Black Mask is the best candidate, because he fits into Nolan's Gotham, and it would force Bruce Wayne to act as himself, as well as Batman. we saw a little of that in TDK, but the duality would really come out in this storyline. Black Mask would be just as much a fight with Bruce Wayne as it would Batman, since Wayne is who Mask is targeting to begin with.

Curiosity killed the cat. you're not that lucky. you just lost the game.
It wouldn't be the end of the world, but I don't want to see Bruce get seriously involved with any females. It's too soon after Rachel died, and in the comics, Bruce tends to not get involved in relationships very often.
Alfred burnt the note Rachel was sending to Bruce. There's a way to bring Two Face into the fold and use that triangle love storyline to really shake up Batman. Also when the people of Gotham find out what Harvey turned into you've got mass chaos.

The Penguin isn't that threatening as threatening of a character though. It was the circus he traveled with that made him really dangerous. It'd be the mob all over again, Barnum & Bailey's style.
As far as Two-Face goes I think Eckhart was more or less speaking hypothetically. If Two-Face is dead why would he show up in the third one even in flashbacks? I see no reason for it.
CATCHPHRASE OF THE WEEK: Mattell, misleading children since 1982.
After I watched The Dark Knight the only thing I wasn't sure of was what possible direction the film series could go in after this one.
Particularily now that both the Joker and Two face are out of the picture. I'm sorry but I refuse to accept they'll have a new actor for Joker and Harveys death was so integral to the end of The Dark Knight I doubt Nolan will cheaply write him back in.
The bat signal gets destroyed which is sort of severing Batman's only tie to the public. Now they're going to believe all sorts of things about him. Losing the signal is changing a massive aspect of the Batman mythos. I know it was necessary with the way it all unfolded but it does leave me unsure of how another film could go.
Maybe a third isn't necessary, either way I can't see him toping this one. It's unlikely that all the elements will work as well for the second time in a row.
If a third does get made though I think The Riddler would fit in perfectly into Nolans universe. I'd really like to see an obsessive compulsive riddler who would be a complete contrast to the Joker's anti-scheming.
