Spawn for a reboot?
I've always liked the character Spawn, unfortunately he hasn't exactly been given a film worthy of such a cool concept. I think a new Spawn movie could work well if it was handled correctly. I suppose they could completely do away with the last movie and start again from scratch in a Batman Begins sort of way.
The animated series of Spawn was really good and ended way before it should have. A new film could take a lot from it. It wouldn't have to get too bogged down in the origin aspect because one of the most interesting parts of the animated series was Spawns confusion over his own situation. Plus we could get some really great visual effects that would bring the character to life in a way not possible before.
I don't really have any ideas about who would play him or direct it but I'm sure in the right hands it could be great. It's not as if the old Spawn movie would be hard to beat.
What say you, mortals?
EDIT: just saw this on Wikipedia;

A sequel, tentatively titled simply Spawn 2, has been in development hell since 1998. [6] [7] [8] Michael Jai White confirmed himself to be a part of the project in 2001, as did producer Don Murphy, [9] [10] though their current involvement has not been confirmed. McFarlane has stated that the film will be primarily centered around the detective characters Sam and Twitch, leaving Spawn without a speaking part. [7] [8] During a FanboyRadio.com interview, Todd McFarlane confirmed that the sequel is a franchise reboot - not a direct sequel - similar to Batman Begins and the 2004 version of The Punisher. [11] In 2007 plans were made for Todd McFarlane Funding to make a new Spawn movie, scheduled for release in 2008. [12] The movie may simply be called Spawn, according to Home Media Magazine. Instead of a dark gritty approach, the film will focus more on the fantasy element of Spawn. [13] While a guest on the Scott Ferrall show on Sirius radio, a caller asked if he had any plans to do the sequel. He said "It's coming out no matter what. Even if I have to produce, direct and finance it myself, it's going to come out."

Well apparantly it's already being thought about but I can't see it being released this year.

I think a reboot would be great. But I didn't like Jai White in the first one. Just something about him didn't work for me as Spawn. Although, John Leguazamo made the perfect Clown/Violator to me.
They should make this one, like you said, like the animated series where Spawn doesn't really have anything more than distorted flashbacks on his past life. But have the voice of Keith David or whoever the voice was. The deep, grizzly, Navy commercial voice guy.

I would love to see them do another spawn movie. The bad thing is that because he is a hero from Hell they automatically get an R Rating and have to water the movie down so much that it doesn't make sense. Like what happened to the first movie.
Have you seen the unrated Directors cut? If not try to find a copy and take a look at that. It will blow your mind!
Unfortunately all Comic Book Dark heroes get watered down to get a PG rating, examples : Dare Devil, Ghost Rider, Spawn, Starship Troopers, All of them are lame in their PG13 version but kick some major **** in their unrated directors cuts.
So if they wanna do a kick **** new spawn movie and not have to worry all that much about ratings then they will have to make it go straight to video and not the theaters.
Sadly John L said that he would never put on the clown fat suit ever again, he lost so much weight and other problems. I would be surprised if they could get him back to play the role of the clown.
The biggest screw up in the first movie was Jason W. (They had the wrong actor) and the ending sucked.
I don't know if Image/ Todd are planning on making any other movies due to the fact of declining sales in comics and toys. They Closed down Todd Toys in Tempe AZ and have scaled back quite a bit to try and save money.
But on the good side another movie just might be the thing to give Spawn a boost back into film reality. If they do another one I would like to see them add in some of the other heros and villains from the spawn comics, or even do "The Curse of Spawn" I wonder who they would get to play the Anti Pope? Now that would be a wild movie to see. Only time will tell.
I can't wait to see what Image/Todd can come up with for the next big Spawn movie.

Spawn would be a good series to bring back to the big screen. I would really like them to stay true to it more like they did with the HBO animated series. I did like the first movie, but it was toned down way too much for it's type of story.
