The Spirit

A lot of buzz been circling over head about this movie. It has a big fanboy line up- Sammy Jackson, Eva Mendes, Scarlet Johanson and... Jamie King? Wow it has been a long time since I've seen SLACKERS.

I have a feeling I'm in for a disappointment on this one though. Involving Jews and black Nazis, half a cast of fanboy actresses, Gabriel Macht, a series of strange quasi-love affairs, and really really heavy firearms along with Miller's usual CG setting and background style filmmaking make for an over-the-top or over-the-flop combination.

It didn't get the greatest reception nor did it have much to offer at Comic Con and the more I see of THE SPIRIT the more skeptical I get. Though I haven't read the graphic novel (like most comic movies I like) so maybe it does more for that than it does as a movie. Miller said he tried to make it in accordance with how the late writer Will Eisner would have seen it.

However I'm still not convinced. It hits theaters on X-mas.

Heh, no offense dude, but no movies tend to rub you well at first. You're always ready for disappointment.

In the end we're all just chalk lines on the concrete, drawn only to be washed away . .
I'd rather you hate me for everything I am
Than have you love me for something that I'm not

I've been a fan of The Spirit since the 70's and have the complete run of the black&white magazine Warren published back then. The two trailers I've seen make the movie look more like "Sin City II" than The Spirit I know but who can resist that cast and Frank Miller directing?

I just went to Youtube to look at a couple of trailers, and to be honest with you guys, it looks pretty bad, I doubt I'll see this movie. I was never a fan of Sin City and this movie reminds me a lot of it. I know Frank Miller is the director, but I'm not all that please by this movie.

"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Babe Ruth

Yeah, I like comics a lot but I haven't read the Spirit. But I've read about it.

But the movie looks entertaining enough. Great visual style, but to people who haven't even read about the Spirit, what would they think? "Some guy in a mask who bangs lots of chicks? SAVE IT FOR PORNO!"

But I'll see it anyways. Could be good. Miller was friends with Eisner so here's hoping he doesn't piss all over his good buddy's work.

Hate to say it but I think he pissed all over it at Comic Con. He fell half asleep during the panel. Now most are having low expectations to begin with.

I was a fan of SIN CITY but this looks over-the-top with a hint of overacting and eye candy.
