Why? You dislike Bale that much?!?!?
Even with Kevlar, you'll still generally get hurt by bullets, esp at that range.

No I don't dislike him, I'm saying it would have made him that much more badass to use live rounds and get shot with Kevlar.
"Ok, Mr. Bale we're ready for you."
"Alright. Hey Nolan, this Kevlar is really itchy. Was it really necessary to put it in the Batsuit?"

"...Nolan?"

WHY!? Why does it always happen to the sports cars!? *cries* It was so beautiful.
I blame Bond!
Anyway...Leadger is the BEST Joker i've ever seen, it's such a shame the threw it away, even if it was accidently, i don't think anyone can do better. He portrayed Joker perfectly and exactly the way you'd expect to see Joker act, the disappearing pencil was funny; i wondered what he was gonna do with it and then all of a sudden i'm like...'holy ****! That pencil is in that dude's eye!'.
Bale...Holy crap his Batman voice is funny, his throat must be sore after; and i dread to think what kind of pain he must have in his shoulders for steering the Bat-cycle. He did a pretty good job with Batman once more and it was nice to see him stepping over the line a little to get what he wanted.
Two-face. I was damn impressed by the special effects on his face, that was crazy, but i don't believe for one minute that he's dead-he's locked up and hidden from the world so people could only think of him as a hero. If he is actually dead i'm disapointed, there's so much more to Two-face than 30 minutes of revenge.
Overall the movie is **** hot and was totally worth the cramp in my leg and the dead ass!

4 weeks in a row...
4 weeks this movie has been #1 at the box office. It outdid PINEAPPLE EXPRESS making another $26 million to its total gross. It's climbing the list of top grossing films of all time but I don't know....
What the ****????
Well, this is interesting... I just checked the list 5 minutes ago and TDK was #49 on the list...
Look at it now.

Technically, it is Italiano. Accounting for inflation, it is about #49 on the all time list if I remember correctly.

I am really glad that it keeps getting first place. I hope this continues and they'll be able to surpass Star Wars. I doubt that it will ever beat Titanic though. Since there 160 million dollars away. Which will be very hard to reach.

So after almost a month (2 days shy) of seeing this thread and wanting to click on it and read, I finally managed to do it today. Woot.
The movie was just released this Wednesday here in France. And I took the opportunity to watch it today (given that the weekend is all I have to sneak out and do stuff on my own without tag along kids).
I don't really go to the movies anymore. I just buy DVDs. I watch a movie in the theatre maybe once a year. So this is my first movie of the year and I'm glad I chose it because I didn't feel like I wasted my time and money. I've been running errands the whole day and I was tired; I would have easily dozed during the movie if it had any hint of boring. This one didn't. I was focused on it from start to finish. I'll buy its DVD version when it comes out to see it again. Thanks for the those who convinced me to go see it as soon as it came out.

Yes, I think he performed well in the movie (even if overshadowed by Ledger). I was surprised too that he died. I thought they would build his character to be one of the main villains in the sequel. It made sense though later in the final scenes (voice over) why they had him die.

And then theres the part of his character that couldn't have been derived from anywhere. The part that makes you wonder where he came from. what history does the Joker have that allows him to conjure up these horrifying schemes? Ledger's psychotic performance, complete with all the little ticks and habits that make the character so insane (licking his lips, his slouch and almost pained staggering gait, the twitches and gulps that marr his already creepy makeup, and the varied laughs, each one with a different emotion behind it) makes you wonder if he really did have a father that abused him and his mother with a kitchen knife. He makes you wonder if he did have a wife who couldn't bear to look at him after his deranged mania had lead him to deface and maim himself. But those were all stories that he told because they fit the situation, served the purpose of frightening his victims. But then there's his own assessment of himself as "a dog chasing cars" when talking to a newly formed Two-Face. You wonder how much of what he says is true, what made him what he is today. Its the kind of character that you never forget because he keeps you guessing long after you've left the theater.
|
His character was really interesting, it made me think some of those things you mentioned. They can even make a Joker movie, lol, but it wouldn't be the same with another actor.

in comparison, Two-Face doesn't compare at all. Now, in all fairness he doesn't have nearly as much time to develop his character (and even within that time, it seems like he uses the coin thing enough to make it old, even if it is his signature), but his transition from the DA that brought Gotham's Mob to its knees to a complete psychopath happens in a matter of minutes, all in a hospital bed. There's also a huge disconnect as to how he gets out of the hospital and goes on his killing spree, especially since the point is made that he didn't take any pain meds. He'd be in so much pain he wouldn't be able to sit up, let along walk around flipping coins and shooting people. As it was, he played the role well depending on what his state was. He played Harvey Dent well, he played Two Face well. the transition is what bugged me.
|
Same here, it (transition) was too fast for me. I thought I might have just missed something and I plan to catch it when I buy the DVD version.

Good to hear you finally saw it.
Here's the big question though, most if not all American movies that are brought to France are dubbed instead of subtitled (as far as I know).
Did you see it with English voices or with French dubs? If so I wonder who the dub actors were and how their performances compared to the originals. I am usually impressed with French dub quality.

ETA:
That part where the Joker tricked Batman into going to the wrong address (he thought he would be saving Rachel but he saved Dent isntead)...I didn't expect that twist. But after feeling the surprise for a few seconds, I realise "of course, it makes sense that the Joker would do such a thing". Why I didn't see that coming, I don't know. For a moment I feel as betrayed by Joker as Batman was in the movie. LOL.

For big movies like this, they usually come out in two versions. One is the VF (version française) which is simply a dubbed version; the other is VOST (version originale sous-titrée) which is the English version with French subtitles. I specifically chose the VOST for this one. I'm not a big fan of dubbed foreign movies if I have the option to hear it in its original form.
The movies they run on the telly, they're just dubbed and some of it are excellently done (because I know the original actor's voice and I can compare it with the dubbed one). And some actors, Jodie Foster comes to mind, who have a background in French prefer to dub their own voices for all the VF movies.

I'm glad that you finally saw the movie and you liked it. I've seen it twice so far and I'll probably go see it a third time.
There's a lot of things that I didn't really catched during the first time I watched it, but caught the second time. Because the first time I was just really excitied to see it and amazed.
