I would love this...Venom has been a great villian and anti-hero alike. His own series could bring Carnage into play without having a similar villian in another Spidey movie.

If they do make the movie, they have to include the tongue thing with Venom.

I am a huge fan of Venom, he's one of my favorite characters in Spider-Man, and I have to agree with everyone else when they say that he wasn't used enough in the third installement of Spider-Man.
Personally I think Venom having his own movie would work, I can't think of the storyline they could use for the movie, but I'm sure they would be able to come up with something pretty interesting and awesome.

Looks like it's definitely going to happen;

Despite being added to please fans, Venom's treatment in Spider-Man 3 was generally very poorly received by lovers of Peter Parker's alien nemesis. Sony may be about to atone for that mis-step with the news today that the studio is developing a spin-off for the character.
Jacob Estes (Mean Creek) has already been commissioned to write a script, although The Hollywood Reporter says that Sony may decide to pass on that script and is looking at new writers. With no script in place, there's no news on which version of Venom the movie would follow. It could be Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3, though Grace has not been approached to reprise his role), which would require some back-pedalling given the end of of Spidey 3, or it could be one of the later characters who are overtaken by the alien symbiote. If Sony was feeling particularly daring, it could even be a woman, based on the comic book lore.
This possible movie wouldn't replace Spider-Man 4, which Sony is still hoping to release in 2011.
The question is, if you make a movie that focuses on a beloved villain, who do you pit him against? It would be enormously surprising for Sony to put Spidey in this movie and still call it a Venom film, so who should they have him battling, other than the evil within? Do you want to see a Venom movie, or would you rather see him left alone?

Well you've got to hand it to the marvel style of film making "If a character doesn't get the attention he deserves..... cut all ties, Cast Edward Norton and try... try... try again". Edward Norton as Venom? Nah but you get the point
I'm still not sure, I mean don't get me wrong... I love Venom. He's a great character, he looks cool and has always offered an interesting aspect to the Spider-man story. I just don't think I'm going to like a film without Spider-man in the equation. I'd be lying if I said I wont totally geek out about it though....

That's great news, I think this movie can actually work, if they give him a good storyline.
You cant say your not going to like a movie till see at least a small teaser of in. It's hard to make a full opinion about something till you get a small taste.
I think this movie is going to have great success, hopefully they choose a good actor to portray him though.

I didn't, I'm just very unsure about it. Surely the counter point is that you can't say your going to like a movie for the same reasons either. Call it "Spider sense" or something but I think sometime you can just tell if your not going to like something. I don't have to see anything about Scream 4 to know I wont like it.
Trust me when this gets made I'll definitely be geeking out of my mind but the sensible part of me just doesn't see how it can be that great.

I sense something similar to CATWOMAN happening here if they decided to go ahead with this. I'm a huge Venom fan, but I don't think having his own movie could help him just like Harvey Dent doesn't need one about him. If Venom is a villain how's the movie going to make him look? What would be the story?
Too many questions and too much failure is written on this.
