I never played Starcraft, so I can't really discern between the two.
But medieval themes were always more appealing to me. Melee weaponry and (in some cases) magic always seemed more epic and interesting to me. |

After playing WarCraft a bit more I can see where it gets it's appeal from. The unit choices are a little more creative then in StarCraft.
