The Hobbit? Can It Be?

I read in a magazine today that The Hobbit becoming a movie is a definite possibility, since Peter Jackson declared that there would never be another Lord Of The Rings Movie he has softened up on the issue quite a bit, all of the characters would be who they are in the Trilogy meaning that there would be the real Gandalf and the same Gollum with the right voice and everything played by the only actor suited for the part, it's lucky for us that in The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of The King Bilbo looks older than the actor actually is, (Is Bilbo in the Two Towers?) hopefully he is a good actor because we really didn't get a taste of what he was like in the other three movies but I'm sure that they were planning ahead for this just in case.

Maybe this movie will actually come out and this wasn't just a stupid magazine article.

"Ohh! OOOhhh!!!-Oh and again! I made it. I know it. I can't see it but I know I made it. Oh my God I made it. Alright, don't give up. This is for everything. This is when I don't have to do it. This one right here is when I don't have to do it, which leaves nothing else but the one. No I don't think so. Not there. God I wish I could turn the volume-OH **** Aahhh son of a **** I talk too much. ****." - 00vega -

I would like to see it for sure. Considering that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was one of the highest grossing trilogies at the box office, I'm not sure why Peter Jackson would have any reason NOT to make this movie. Considering that most LOTR fans will see the Hobbit, they are guaranteed to make money.

It would also be really cool if they got the same actors for each character.

I've never read "The Hobbit" though. What is it about really, and is it something that would make a good movie? Does it have a strong plot line?

Re: The Hobbit? Can It Be?

Here's the reason why he wasn't going to do the movie....glad to hear he's going forward with it.

Copied from another site...

"The real reason has to do with a lawsuit Jackson and company have pending against New Line that has to do with "certain accounting pratices" that took place following The Fellowship of the Ring. Recently, there was word that MGM was trying to obtain the rights to LOTR from New Line in order to make two films, one being an adaptation of The Hobbit. MGM claimed they were in talks with Peter Jackson. However, Jackson was not present for these talks, only MGM's vivid imagination was. According to Jackson, New Line will be going ahead with the films, but since Jackson refuses to make them until the lawsuit is discussed, New Line has told him they "would no longer be requiring our services on The Hobbit and the LOTR prequel." And if that doesn't jam the nail straight into the coffin inside our hearts, these final words from Jackson certainly will: "This outcome is not what we anticipated or wanted, but neither do we see any positive value in bitterness and rancor. We now have no choice but to let the idea of a film of The Hobbit go and move forward with other projects."

They wouldn't make the movie unless they could get all of the same characters, I think that that would only be Bilbo, Gandalf, Gollum, and obviously most of the hobbits from the shire that people would recognize as being in the Fellowship of the Ring and The Return Of The King.

That sounds pretty cool. Bilbo seemed like a good actor to me. I think he would be great in the Hobbit.

And yes, I believe IT CAN BE

I think if Jackson did end up making a Hobbit movie that it'd be on par with LOTR, if not better. Also, the other move that MGM was mentioned to have been planning, i wonder if that would be The Similarion?

EDIT: it appears that it IS in production, and is slated to be released in 2009.

I'd love to see a Hobbit movie from Jackson, but without his vision and dedication behind the film it will be a pale imitation.

The Hobbit is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings story, focusing mainly on Bilbo Baggins, the uncle of Frodo. The premise of the book is:

The Hobbit is basically the adventure of Biblo. It's kinda a like a little kid fantasy book.

Would they use the same character for Bilbo, because that might look kind of strange. He is kind of old

Makeup and CGI would take care of that, no worries. There's a lot of interesting characters in The Hobbit, and it might take up to three or four hours of movie to pull it all off.
