I think OHMSS is a terrible film because it's a terrible film. It was on the other day here, and the only reason i watched it was because it was a Bond film. It didn't captivate me at all, i actually found it rather dull. It has nothing to do with Lazenby, although i really didn't like him as Bond. I don't know why. If he had reprised the role in Diamonds are Forever i'd have a better idea. But it's hard to feel too strongly based on the one film he did.
I'm not a fan of the Moonraker theme. The Moore era had some good ones, like Nobody Does it Better, The one from Octo****, the title escapes me right now, A View to A Kill and of course Live and Let Die.
Jaws wasn't portrayed too differently than he was in the Spy Who Loved Me, i'd say. There was still that aspect of him being the Wile Coyote to 007's road runner. The comedy scenes including Jaws in Moonraker made his eventual alignment shift more believable. And him being disfigured and liking the "homely" looking girl, was one of the cleverer aspects of the film, considering that's how Bond convinced him to help him out.
I don't think Moonraker is great, but it's not that horrible. It would have been better if it was more faithful to the Novel though. The Nazi aspect of Drax's character was really awesome.
And i like Moore's one liners. That he came up with a lot of them himself only reafirms my opinion that he was the best Bond.
That reminds me, i forgot to inlcude Dalton in my list. He'd be 3rd, just after Brosnan. License to Kill is one of my favourites.

To each his own. That's what makes discussions such as this one so stimulating: everybody's got their own opinion and own reasons for which Bond film they like and which one they don't. And it's okay. Movies and discussions about movies are supposed to fun and enjoyable. Not bloody struggles to the death.
My liking for ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE comes mainly from the lack of gadgets and world conquering plans. This was a fairly realistic and tough action/adventure with just enough fantastic elements to be just on this side of believable.
The theme form OCTO****; "All Time High" does nothing for me. It sounded a lot like they were trying to do "Nobody Does It Better" all over again.
Jaws was played very differently in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. He actually used his steel teeth to kill people and was a credible threat to Bond. Once he fell into that circus tent in MOONRAKER I just knew he was going to be a comedic character.
As for Moore's coming up with his own one-liners and jokes just reaffirms something I've thought for years: most people think they're a lot funnier than they actually are.
Timothy Dalton made the #2 slot on my list because out of all the actors who have played James Bond, his is the closest to the character in Ian Fleming's novels.

In defence of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, it is in actual fact a very good film. I would even admit that it's not the best, but it's one of the closest to the book. Moonraker isn't close to the book at all. On Her Majesty's Secret Service made us see Bond as more of a human. With love being a bigger issue than in the previous five films.
Anyway, back to the Quantum of Solace. I have no doubt that it's going to be a tremedous film. Out on Ocober 31st and I am definitely going to see it then. I know someone who worked on there and he said it's good. It's nothing to do with the short story Ian Flemming wrote called "Quantum of Solace" but the title fits the theme which follows on from the last film as it is a continuation of Casino Royale. I hope the music will be good as well because that too is a big part of Bond films. Daniel Craig is fantastic as Bond and I hope he will do many more, almost as much as Roger Moore (also very good - suave and sophisticated but oh so ruthless) who did seven.

I agree. But so does Sean Connery and especially Daniel Craig. But you're very right about Timothy Dalton although he's not the most popular. The difference between the Bond in the films and the Bond in the books is vast but very few people actually know because not many read the books. Big mistake because the books are fantastic! Ian Flemming was a terriffic writer R.I.P.

I've never been a big Bond fan, but I'm sure the boyfriend will drag me along to it.

How many films have you seen? I ask because some have sucked while others have been legendary.

Blasphemy! Yes you sure will be seeing it, madame. And we'll keep seeing it until you enjoy it.
Always look forward to Bond films. They'd have to build a 5-chain piece of crap combo before I'd start to lose interest. I really enjoyed Royale and Craig passed the test in my books. Lacking a bit of charisma perhaps but still has brutish charm. Moore was always my favourite, with Connery a close second. I saw the real trailer when we went to see Hancock. The guy at the booth said "they're showing the new Bond before it starts" and Bliss' friend replied "what the whole film??". D'oh.
Going rogue/dark seems to be quite a trend for blockbusters lately though. Expect a special Dark Quantum burger at your local Burger King soon.

It's coming about in just about a month from now.
Is anybody else looking forward to this as much as I am?
Who thinks this will outshine Casino Royale? Quantum has some HUGE shoes to step into given the fact that the bar was raised so high with Casino.
Daniel Craig got rave reviews as Bond in Casino Royale but we'll soon see if he can continue making the role his own for a 2nd film. My guess is that he'll do just fine.

Seen 'em all. Even the 1950's adaptation of CASINO ROYALE with Barry Nelson who actually is the very first actor to play James Bond.
