Z was waaaaaaayyyyyyyy better. It was mindless godmoding and constant "OMGTHENEWGUYISSTRONGERTHANTHEOTHERGUY!!!!!!" but it was still one hell of alot better than GT.

Z but damnit the story lines were so drawn out and formulatic.
Bad guys show up
Goku is unable to step up right away
Weaker characters get smacked around
Goku comes along, gets stronger, charges for atleast 3 episodes
Every one watches in amazement.
I liked the Cell saga because for once it fell on Gohan and Goku died in a good way. That should have been the end of the story in my opinion, with Goku not wanting to be wished back and Gohan being the new strongest guy it would have had a really accomplished ending. I didn't like the Buu saga at all and GT was abismal.

I definitely like Z more, hands down.
They really screwed up GT by making Goku a kid again and making the bad guys dumb such as baby. I think that a lot of the main characters have really dumb deaths in GT such as Vegeta being turned into a cookie and being EATEN!
They also completely changed the voices right after I was starting to get used to the Dragon Ball Z voices that they changed after Namek.

Vegeta was never killed by being cookied/eaten. He got possessed by Baby and was beaten by Goku. Vegeta recovered while Goku blasted Baby into the sun. (i think >_>)

Definitely DBZ, for one, it spawned off more sagas, and 2, it was overall better.
You can tell, when a series is about to die, and I think that is when GT started to kinda lose it too.

Definately DBZ. The ideas for the storyline were pretty good with DBGT, but you could pretty much sense the "spin-off" essence; that is wasn't what Akira Toriyama wanted.
I didn't like that all those strong characters from the Buu Saga were suddenly weak again either.

The whole concept of the fusion should have been utilised a bit more better, because their was ton of potential.
To be honest, Buu isn't that strong, he just happens to be able to regenerate, without that ability, he would have been dead ages ago.
