Side Dish
Alright lets say you go to a restaurant and you order your main corse, the waiter tells you it comes with a side dish.
E.G:
Salad
Baked Potatoe
Mashed Potatoes
What would you select?

Depends on the dish.
I'd choose whatever went with it.

Mashed potatoes or fries are always a good choice.

The way food is served in the U.K and the U.S is a lot different according to my Mum. One of the last times she was in the U.S, she stayed in Seattle, she ordered a Pizza and she said it was enough to feed a whole familly, and the cheese was weird, and the salad they gave her was enough for a cow to graze on, but accorind to the Americans she was with, you don't do large portions, you do HUGE.
I'm used to Mashed Potato being part of the main.

Mashed Potatoes. Love them, could eat my body weight in them. If not Salad then with ranch dressing.

Over here, side dish would most often mean a plate of fries.

I usually go with the House Salad, it doesn't matter what I eat as my main corse, I'm not a big fan of fries or mashed potatoes, but I do love house salad with Ranch dressing.

You mean the French would actually eat something as common as chips [fries]? Now I've heard it all. ;-p
