I can speak a little but I wouldn't embarass myself trying to have a conversation in French with anyone.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I know a LOT more French than anyone I know.
GO ME!!!

I have a few French books and a few Polish ones too but I just don't seem to have the time after cleaning and playing with the Flufflets.

I will have to try and get my brain into gear though, thanks for the inspiration.

Let me know if you need suggestions for other books on learning French.

My understanding of French is a strange one. I did french in school but not to a high standard. I have spent a lot of time in France and I knew enough of the language to get by (Parlez vous Anglais?), I would listen to french tv and radio and I can understand French, if there were a conversation in french I could understand its context, when someone spoke to me 7 times out of 10 I knew what they were saying.

However....when it came to responding and speaking french myself I am hopeless, I know the keywords but can not construct them into a sentence. My mind gets hopelessly confused and I end up speaking a mismatch hybrid of welsh/english/french and spanish all at once where the listener would look at me bewildered at the nonsense I have just said which makes no comprehension in any language. I found in these instances it was best to either just speak English or to speak single French words only(like a 3 year old).

See for yourself:

That was pretty good Sim, but prattiqué is written like this pratiquer. But other then that it's a good job from your part.

"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Babe Ruth

Parlez-vous Francais?

Um, no, but I wish I did.

Unfortunately, my school doesn't offer French. Only Spanish, and I would never learn that!

I understood perfectly what you meant, Sim. I found 7 things that could be improved but they didn't change the meaning of what you wanted to say; being able to express it and being understood is the more important part of communicating anyway. Good job.

Should I be accepted into the Canadian Forces, I'll have to undergo an intense Second Language Training program to learn Quebecois French, for up to seven months.

Should be interesting.
