How do you react towards beggars?

If you meet beggars on the street, how do you feel? Do you ignore them? Do they scare you? Are you repulsed by them? Do you feel sorry for them and give them money?

There are 2 of them down where I work and they try to hit you up everyday while you are stopped at a light. I just ignore them.

I find it rude to gawp at them like they're some kind of degenerate form of life, so I generally ignore them.

I find that it's generally best to ignore them. Pay them attention and they can focus on you.

Besides, most of them will just spend on cigarrettes, alcohol, etc, so it's pointless to give them anything in my opinion.

You treat me as an outsider. You call an outcast, brand me an exile, but I am not so different from your kind, you know. Some small part of me was once Human. Perhaps this is why I fight for you...

I know it's a rude assumption, but when I see one I tend to think that they're just lazy people. I mean, come on, there's a lot of opportunity out there. You just need to look for it. Even if you're doing grunt work, it's money.

In the end we're all just chalk lines on the concrete, drawn only to be washed away . .
I'd rather you hate me for everything I am
Than have you love me for something that I'm not

I take each one as an individual; how they are acting, their behavior, what they are doing, their apperance, their smell...etc..

I never ignore them if they speak to me, I think it would be rude to do so, I just say no thanks or sorry cant help you out

Occasionaly if Im going into a shop and they are outside I'll buy them something like a sandwich or chocolate bar, if they are putting effort into the begging, playing an instrument or doing some street art, I'll give a few coins if it is worthy. We have a homeless magazine here called The Big Issue, it costs Ł1 and the beggars sell them so that they dont have to beg, it also means that they are being observed by care-workers who monitor there expenses, there health and any drug and alcohol abuse.

I dont like the beggars you get in tourist hotspots, like the avenue de champs-elysee in Paris; where you get balkan girls with who may or may not be refugees but they try and make you feel guilty to give you money with stories of the atrocities they have experienced. There is also a guy who just kneels there with his head on the pavement for hours, I would not give to him.

Bananas, we have those magazines too. I saw them sold by the regular beggar near the grocery where I used to shop. I even bought once.

Sometimes I'd give money (I prefer when they do something else like attempt to play music). Or I'd give food. I guess if I were really concerned about them, I'd point them to a group that caters to helping beggars or sdfs. I haven't done that. I'm afraid it won't be appreciated and I don't really want to argue with a beggar. Some of them do make me feel uncomfortable.

Other times, I ignore them or say I don't have money when asked. This applies most especially to those who ride the suburban trains with note cards explaining their life situation. At first I fell for it, then I noticed that a lot of people use the same note cards (just change the number of kids they have) to be distributed during the ride and they pick them up later with a hope that you left some change for them.

I was approached by a beggar the other day. I just tell them sorry, I would like to give you some change but I don't have any change on me. Which is true cause I only carry my debit card with me.
