If You could be a person from the past?

well this thread could be fairly difficult to answer.

If you could be one person from the past who would you choose?

rules...
  • the person must be a mathematician/scientist, or something of the sort, no warriors or soldiers allowed
  • The person must be real
  • The person must have lived at least in the 1700's or earlier

I would probably drive myself insane trying to think of a good answer for this but right off the top of my head I think that it would be pretty cool to be Archimedes

he is still considered to be one of the top 3 smartest men of all time, he was so smart that the ruler of Greece said that whatever Archimedes said was true and there was no questioning it, as long as it was about math.

He invented Pi and countless other shapes. He came up with a way to draw perfect circles by starting with a perfect hexagon and continuously dividing each side into 2 more sides so the amount of sides double each time he did it.

He also came up with a technique for calculating the volume of a sphere.

The only problem with this guy was the fact that he had a really really retarded death, Rome found out about him and decided to come after him, the city was attacked and the soldiers were ordered to take him prisoner but for some reason one soldier didn't listen and killed Archimedes in his home at the age of 70.

Who would everyone else be?

I get a strong feeling you really put some time into thinking about this, either that or you are watching the History channel while posting and there is something on about historical mathematicians.

Vivaldi.

I'd compose awesome music. (which is what Vivaldi did, of course!)

I would be an explorer. I don't care who. As long as he was successful.

He doesn't exactly qualify for this thread as he was born in the 1800s.

I want to be Adam. You know, the first person on Earth. I think it would be awesome to see the earth before man destroyed it =P Plus, I heard Eve was pretty hot. Who wouldn't want a hot partner? And with noone else around, she'd have no choice but to have sex with me =P

I misread the thread title, I thought it was post 1700's.

I'd like to be either Lewis or Clark and go looking for the Northwest Passage.

I actually almost said this exact same thing. Their exploration was in the early 1800s, so I wasn't sure if they would count.
