You're just stepping around questions you can't answer Padd.
What Elf meant was that he has a tag of the US flag on his jeans, if he burns that tag does it count for the same disregard for his country as burning the actual flag?

Actually; I'd have to agree with Padd in saying that that tag is not officially recognized as an official regional/state/national flag- and therefore can be burned and not be disrespectful.

I can not disagree more. A symbol is a symbol regardless of what it is printed on. To paint a Nazi swastika on a wall is no different to flying the Nazi flag or having it as the label on your jeans, what the symbol represents and how it is perceived holds no variance. The same goes for any flag, a flag is nothing but a piece of cloth until an image is placed upon it, and then it is still just a piece of cloth but the image on the cloth may be considered symbolic by some it does not give the cloth any more importance just gives it more symbolic value.

You're comparing apples to oranges. a swastika is a re-known evil emblem. How can the same go for any flag!? If I have a pale leaf on my shirt and it gets burnt am I burning the Canadian falg? If I have a red cross on my panst is it the English flag. What if I have a pine tree on my sock, is there any significance to the Kenyan flag!?
I highly doubt it,

So you're saying it's ok to burn a tag, which is a piece of material which has the US flags colours on it, but it's not ok to burn the flag, which is also a piece of material with the US flag colours on it just because its THE flag?
And in some countries the US flag may be a symbol of evil in their eyes, in Iraq for example.

flags have significant value. Tags don't.

The Swastika was also a flag at one point, yes it was a symbol of evil throughout Europe but some countries may see the US flag as the same symbol in their eyes, not everyone loves America.
I thought tags and swim suits were as patriotic as flying the flag itself out side your home? If you burn said tag or swim suit don't you show the same disrespect as you would burning the actual flag?

To some people the US flag is a re-known evil emblem. To some people the swastika is a religious symbol. It is irrelevant what the symbol means, if some one feels strongly and passionately enough to display a symbol the same right should be given to those who oppose the symbol, like it has been said early in this thread to not allow it is fascist.

Of course there is, if the pattern/picture/idea is a symbolic representation then it is no different or less significant than the symbolic representation when in the form of a flag.
A pair of socks with the stars and stripes on them is no different(other than functionally) to a stars and stripes flag.
........... and a flag can still be made into a pair of socks plus many other things so its equally functional.

 >>>> is this a flag? or just white space painted in us flag colors
If you paint the same thing in your pants, can you honestly say "it's just red stripes with stars, no other significance". Is there any other significance to the mix of lines, shapes, and color that this picture has other than the US flag?

If freedom of expression ought to be a protected right, then “offensive” expression ought to be a protected right. If “offensive” expression ought to be a protected right, then “offensive” expression ought not be illegal. Freedom of expression ought to be a protected right. Therefore, “offensive” expression ought not be illegal.
