Do You Prefer Extra Features with your Game System?
Quote:
Quote:
DS System: $129.99 Media Dock: $99.99 Memory Stick (to utilize the dock): $19.99-59.99 varying by size New Game: 29.99-39.99 TOTAL: $279.96 (minimum), $329.96 (maximum) PSP System: $169.99 (core) - $199.99 (bundle with game and memory stick) Memory stick: $19.99-$59.99 New Game: $29.99-$39.99 TOTAL: $219.96 (Minimum), $299.96 This actually shows that the PSP is more affordable than the DS and offers a lot more functionality. This was the precise reason I got a PSP, because it has a good roster of games (better than people give mention to seeing as most people have never even played 'em) and great functionality. I'd much rather have a system that functions as a complete package. Not to mention, the extended capabilities of the PSP bring the games more replay value and stronger gameplay. I only rant here about the PSP because it's the underdog. Sony has sucked some serious **** lately in terms of game sales and in term, Sony game products have suffered. The UMD format was a poor attempt to get money from people when all that Sony should have done was offer an iTunes like service that allowed people to download movies and play 'em from the PSP. So with the above thoughts in mind (and apologies for the mini rant), what do you think? Is it totally useless to have extra functionality in your game system? Should they only exist to play games and nothing else? What's so wrong with having extra playability with your games? |

I think that without some of the extra abilities of the consols now I would not buy one that could not do the basic functions that the PS2 could do. It would just be a waste of money to buy a system purely for gaming. Especially when they run 300-400 dollars. I had better get something else with it for that kind of money.

Where the hell are you getting this information.
Please link me to media dock and memory stick... You dont need a media dock for the DS as all games save to there cartridges, unless you are bying a 3rd party product to get saves off the internet. I havent found either on eBay or Nintendos website. All you need is a DS and the games (WiFI is another story) |

I actually under-priced the dock now that I realize it. I don't know how I can say this without insulting you Samus, but please point me to where I said that the DS needs a dock to save games? Before you get all confrontational like you do, calm down and reread the post. I compared a DS and a PSP in price if they had the same functionality. For the DS to play movies or music (I.E., match the PSP in features), it needs a media dock that allows the usage of memory sticks. I also find it very sad that you actually voted that you want nothing aside from the games themselves. So you don't want wi-fi capabilities either? That's an extra feature, you know. |

THATS OPTIONAL, you dont need it, and its not even licensed a product!!!! it only runs JPEGs and homebrew. Sure WiFi is optional, but I have my WiFi for my computer, it just so happens to work with my DS, and Wifi, can only cost you as little as 30 bucks, if you have broadband... Thats all you NEED on a DS
DS wifi dongle - Google Product Search Talk about official products, like how the PSP needs a memory stick to save games... DS needs nothing more than a console and its games |

It honestly depends on what the extra features are, and if they're worth it or no.

I just love how Constantine wants to add all this 3rd party crap that has no need (required) on DS to try to prove that DS is more expensive. You only need it if you want those extras... As most DS users have proven, there is no need for it.
YET, go on to provide actually stuff you NEED for a PSP. Go figure, I call BS on this topic, and have proven my point! ] |

Samus, you're talking about needs here, but the thread is on about wants. People who buy a DS might also want to watch movies and play music on it. In a similar light, people who buy a PSP might just want the system for the games.
In any case, depends on what extra features they are. I don't mind things like WiFi, because I like that. Movies however...well, I'd rather not want to watch them in teeny-weeny-eye-strain-o vision, myself. |

Just look at the DS vs PSP thread...
Im saying DS gamers who outnumber PSP at over a clip of 2 to 1... Hes adding optional equipment to DS and saying PSP is a bettr Bargain... If you want those options, thats fine , I wont argue that, but in NO WAY is the PS a better deal over DS for game players, Im tired of all this 'double talk' People play DS for games, not extras. and not for 3rd party crap! You might want PSP for all the failed UMD crap, But DS owners play for the games! not movies or MP3's Constantine was trying to prove PSP is a better deal over DS, and I proved him wrong, thats why he left after I provided my argument against his really crappy one. Besides, did you know that on the PS2 slim there is a warning im the manual that says 'useing DVD playback will kill the laser faster than if you play the games alone' Just look at the trends, Gamers want systems that play games, not multi-function systems DS = 63 million world wide Wii = 20 million world wide Thats 83 million people who say that dont need that BS |

That states that he believes that if you want a system for pure gaming, get a DS. If you want an all-in-one system, get a PSP. Last edited by Storm; 01-23-2008 at 12:29 PM.. |
