John Wayne Syndrome

I have developed a theory. It is called "John Wayne Syndrome". It is when an actor develops a consistency in their acting roles. You see certain similar traits when you compare their different roles. Many actors develop this syndrome at one point or another in very mild strokes.

Others can develop it in a stronger consistency. For example in all of John Wayne's movies, he's John Wayne. The way he talks, his attitude, all have the John Wayne traits. He had it the strongest, and was one of the first actors to develop it that potently, hence "John Wayne Syndrome".

Certain actors today who have "John Wayne Syndrome" are Jack Nicholson, Steven Segal, Kevin Costner, Shia LeBoeuf, and even Denzel Washington has started to develop it a little.

What do you think of this theory of mine and who else do you think has "John Wayne Syndrome"?

Your theory does make sence and there's a lot of actors out there especially the ones you mentioned that have"John Wayne" syndrome. But I'd have to take Steven Seagal out of the mix, because everyone knows that he's only one dimensional and you always expect him to be in movies that he's done in the past. Here's a few actors that are similar to Steven Seagal.

-Jean-Claude Van Damme
-Chuck Norris
-Hulk Hogan(he's done is fair share of films)

Also I think it's to early to put Shia LeBoeuf in this John Wayne Syndrome category because he just started to make movies.

"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Babe Ruth

Alright yeah, I think I agree with you on both those answers. They are definitely one dimensional and all their movies are very generic. Touche.

I'm hoping Shia LeBoeuf breaks out of his own shell though. I think he has the potential to be a good actor, I just haven't seen it yet.

Also I really didn't like "Disturbia".

Yeah, Smith has been getting some more of John Wayne Syndrome lately. His new movie "Handcock" will probably show it too judging by the trailer.

Another one I just thought of is Schwarzenegger. He definitely has John Wayne Syndrome up the Yin Yang.
