National Anthems?
Do you believe it's necessary that they play National Anthems before every sporting events?
Personally I don't belive they should play it. I think it's very stupid and useless that they play anthems before each game of the season, for any major sports. I don't believe they should be played, and should be taken out in general. Thoughts? Only if you're playing against a foriegn country like in the World cup and qualifing rounds.

I don't even bother singing the national anthem anymore, they've simply overdone it everywhere.

only during international play. Why should they play the American national anthem at a hockey game between 2 American teams if half the players are either Canadian or European.

I agree, it's fine when it's the Olympics and the winners are taking the podium and they player the national anthem for the winner. Or if you have international play, then you play the national anthem of the winner at the end of the game.

I like it for international competitions, like the Olympics or the World Cup. But playing it before every single game leagues like the NBA, NHL, or NCAA, etc, is ridiculous. Not all of the players on those teams are the nationality of the anthem being played.

Basically what everyone else said. Only when there are actually other countries involved should anthems be played. I don't even stand anymore and I've stopped singing the national anthem since they made us in elementary school.

Australian anthem isn't being overused.
It's played: National Football games (Soccer to the Yanks) A-League Grand Final Anzac Day (Collingwood vs Essendon, AFL) AFL Grand Final Australian Cricket Home Games (Especially on Boxing Day Test, when anthem is always a must) Counting down to till my 16th!: 73 days 22 hours 32 minutes |
