Cool Xbox used as a weapon. Who knew!

False advertising. And, here I thought it was used for video games:

YouTube - New 007 Laser Weapon - Revealed!

If you don't want to view the video I'll tell you how it went down. This guy took apart an Xbox 360 HD DVD drive and took out the blue diode. He did some Popular Mechanics for Kids stuff to it and turned it into a laser weapon. Amazing! It popped a balloon, lite a match and burnt some electoral tape. Who knew the future of REAL life laser weapons was here.

When will we start seeing lasers carried by police and criminals? Seriously, just picture the Crips and Bloods having a laser fight with the Crips holding blue laser weapons and the Bloods using red ones. Hilarious... but dangerous.

Which weapon will reign supreme in the future: guns with bullets or lasers?!

Pretty cool, I'd like to compare it to the 200 - 300 mW lasers I've heard of to see what the range is.

Why you'd want a 200 - 300 mW laser with a range of over 100 miles in civilian life, I don't know...

This is pretty cool. It's nice to see there is an actual use for the Xbox 360.

Great, another reason why people would say Xbox is better than PS3.

As for the OP's question, I bet the lasers will reign. They've had advance marketing scheme for it. Thank you Star Wars.

Bullets will last for a long time in my book.

At the moment, the most powerful lasers capable of killing someone are large. As are the lasers used to shoot down missiles. The only rifle-sized laser in use is known as the Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response (PHaSR), and that's only powerful enough to momentarily distract a target by "dazzling" them.

Until those powerful lasers can be reduced in size, their use as a weapon against ground troops is limited.
