Photic Sneeze Reflex

Photic sneeze reflex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Photic sneeze reflex is a genetic autosomal dominant trait, which causes sneezing when exposed suddenly to bright light, possibly many times consecutively.
Anyone else have this? It's pretty pervasive. I usually sneeze twice when I have to look near the sun, sometimes three times. I'm rather sensitive to it, I can sneeze when I have to look at bright reflections.

I do that. Usually only once, sometimes twice. It's rather irritating, especially considering I live in a desert.

That sounds like it could be seriously annoying. I'm glad I don't have it. Hell, I hadn't even heard of it before now.

I have this! Every time I go out in the sun in the morning to do something I'll sneeze. I actually find it kind of refreshing to get my daily morning sneeze in. I'll only sneeze once and that's the end of that.

I actually use the sun or brightlight to force myself to sneeze when I feel one coming. I cannot stand having to sneeze and then nothing happening. So whenever I feel one coming I automatically look up and hope I catch some light to force out the sneeze.

My 13 year old does this everytime she sees the sun. She'll be excited to find out it's not only her. Thanks for sharing this.

Meh.. I could have swore I made a thread about this a long time ago. Must have been at another forum.

I am also a solar sneezer, been doing it all my life. My dad has told me about how when I was a baby they would put the sun in my face and laugh at me when I'd start sneezing. I found that oddly disturbing way to get amusement from you child but eh no harm no foul.

When I first started to notice I kept sneezing whenever I was first out in the sun, I thought I was allergic or becoming allergic to sunlight. My parents didn't have an answer to this either. I'm glad somebody found this out.

A mystery in my life is finally cleared up. 1 down, many more to go...

I thought a lot of people had this. I guess that I am thinking more of people who look directly at bright light to help an oncoming sneeze get out.

I don't have it very consistently, but I do have it fairly often. Especially when going from dim lighting to bright or vice versa.
