Swiftstrike's Benching Quest! heh

Well after going light on weight lifting because of tax season ( I stopped lifting completely in March) and then only running to lose fat for the past couple of months I am not heading back into the weight room.

Now roughly what I was benching before I dropped lifting was the following:

185-190lbs 3 sets of 10 reps

165-170lb 3 sets of 15 reps

230-240lbs 4 sets of 5 reps

Now right now I am going with the standard ten

After going into the gym I did

One Set of 10 of the following weights on the bench:

  • 135lbs
  • 145lbs
  • 150lbs
Now I probably could have done more but I want to build it up gradually but still I found it pretty difficult. It's amazing how taking a month off how much it can set you back.

My goal is by the end of august to be repping 175 at 10 reps well.

Anyways everyone else feel free to post you benches or any weight-lifting goals you guys have!

Phew. It is horrible how quickly we can lose our exercise status. After I had surgery I was unable to get into the gym for over a month and my 5 mile run went to about a 2 mile brisk walk, and I am not cleared for any weight lifting, so I do not even want to imagine what the heck that is going to be like.

7/31/08 Lift

Well this marked the second day of me doing chest excercises. I was impressed I was able to bump up my weight quickly. Although I know the second week will be the most important.

I did a total of 3 sets. I did 1 set of 10 reps of the following weights.

  • 145
  • 155
  • 155
Overall a 5lb bump from Mon. But the fact that I did 2 sets of it shows that I made some progress and that I still maintained a lot of strength.

Next week will be the next test!

My bench is horrible considering my weight and age. I do have a wingspan that's nearly 4" longer than my height though.

vital stats:
height: 5'8"
wingspan: 5'11.5"
weight: 159 lbs
age: 19

I'm benching 95 lbs with 3 sets of 10 reps. My upperbody doesn't seem to get much stronger maybe it's because I'm not pushing myself hard enough. Though my squat has improved. I'm doing 3 sets of 10 reps with 155 lbs. I started at 90 lbs 3 months ago.

The nice thing about going back to it as opposed to starting fresh is your muscle memory. It'll be a lot easier to get back what you lost than trying to build it from scratch.

So yesterday I did

  • 155 1x10
  • 160 2x10
I think in another few weeks I will be in prime form the problem is I am sure I am going to need a spotter.

Going to the gym alone sucks I forgot all about that after having a lifting partner for years.

I will probably be repping 170 in 3 sets in a week or two.
