Well you'll always need some protein it helps with cell rebuilding etc, but theres plenty other ways of getting protein w/o eating meat. Just not in the same quantities I guess. You can find it in eggs(you're not going vegan are you?), grains, legumes, and dairy products such as milk and cheese.

So theres plenty of other ways of getting it :D

I wouldn't ever want to be a vegetarian. Meat tastes way to good for me to stop eating it.

I just feel really guilty that innocent lives are being killed purposely for human consumption. I don't think it's right.

Sorry to line up a load of quotes and I know it was not your initial question but there are a couple of elements I'd like to raise. I hope I don't scare you but its worth your own research.

If you are quitting meat for moral reasons then you must be aware of the dairy industry which is quite horrific in comparison. If you are to quit one for moral reasons I'd go for the worse of the two and the one which provides less nutritional benefits.

The life of a Dairy cow is not a pretty one and death (as happens to beef stocks) would not be a bad option. Dairy cows are milk machines and every aspect of their short life is to provide maximum milk yield. It is quite shocking what they go through.

Read on but be warned may be distressing

MilkMyths.org.uk

If you can find a reputable source (a local local butcher, not supermarkets) then to kill an animal for its meat is not half as cruel as having a glass of milk or a bar of chocolate.

If you want to do your moral bit towards animals then vegetarianism is an option but it is not the most beneficial option in the moral interest of the animals.

BTW: I eat meat and I drink milk, even though I do not agree with the practice it is a hard one to avoid and purposely try to limit my consumption (cornflakes just don't taste the same without milk).

I guess if you really wanted you could drink soya milk? Won't taste as nice (IMO) but it will still have the nutrients in it I think...

I drink soy milk and I think that it tastes much better than regular milk because it is so much thicker.

I'm vegetarian but my children aren't and i don't find it difficult to cook for us all, i don't have meat substitutes (ie quorn) as i don't like it, i just have alot of wholegrain rice/pasta, alot of potatoes.
I really don't feel that i am missing out.
If you speak to your mum she will probably be happy to substitute meat for meat free products alot as you said she has these sometimes already.

I probably wont ever be a vegetarian and definately wont be a vegan and I try not to picture the animal I'm eating, being the animal lover I am. However, I am totally against the way the animals are bought up for slaughter, it's disgusting.

Hey she's trying something she beleives is right. It's no biggie.Like Jeanie said about Bone Marrow. This is very true, and the more you eat the more brainpower you have. It's that huge condensed patient I guess. But hey Lise all power to ya. Anything form the ground is a good place to start. Sushi, Salads, and to be frank I really don't think Italian food has meat or at least soem dishes doo , but most of it is vegetables. ALso don't forget about Organic stuff.

Sushi's got meat in it... unless you're going to be a pescatarian lise?

another dish you could try is stuffed peppers, my mum puts rissoto o them and its really nice

(Y) go for it!

Italian food has quite a lot of meat in it, but there'll be dishes without it, or you can take the meat out of the recipe and add something else.

So, all sushi has meat in it? All of it?

Please don't just assume you're right, look up some information first, please.
