My super great (dont know how many "supers") grandpa was a body guard for some politician in Egypt whenever he was alive. Once, he saved him (took a bullet or something) so in return (he lived) the politician gave him a chunk of land.
Long story, he sold it for like the current equivalent of 100 US $
If he had passed the land down, today it would be worth millions.
fail Grandpa...fail.

There was a quote here, but the the person who SAID the quote and pretty much ASKED for it to be placed in my sig asked for it to be removed.

My great...great(I don't know exactly how many greats) grandfather was a Secret Service bodyguard for Abraham Lincoln. He obviously wasn't very good because President Lincoln was assassinated.

My dad did research on our family 5 years ago and got a quite detailed family tree together.
Anyway... My great-great-great-grandpa moved to Canada in 1840 from Ireland. Married a girl from there, had kids. They moved to the U.S. somewhere between New York state and Pennsylvania. One of the girls married into my current last name sometime in the late 1800's early 1900's. They had kids who had my grandpa, who had my dad who had me.

My "ancestors", probably great grandpa was from China. About the time when he was in college, the communism in China was really at its pinnacle because Mao was still alive. Also, my great grandpa's family were rich capitalists/imperialists, exactly the type of people the communists hate. His family was evicted from their estate and forced to find a different place to live. That was after he got married and he moved to US, the whole nine yards.

My family ancestory on my paternal grandmothers side has been traced back to approx 630AD with some certainty and a little bit further but it kind of gets sketchy as it was the dark ages and we can only speculate the people and their dates, fortunatly they were fairly prestigous its just that the history becomes entwined with myth.
The one character that stands out was a guy called Henry Dwn who was around at the turn of the 15th century, he was a welsh man and a military hero, he fought with the English against the Irish as a mercenary. He then played a major role in the Welsh revolt against the English to which he employed the service of the French, he conquered the castle that he protected and he was tried for treason and imprisoned in london tower once the revolt ended, he was released on condition of a huge bail(he never paid it). A few years later he fought for the English against the French at Agincourt. Who says you cant buy loyalty?
His son has his name in the history books as being the 1st Welshman exempt from the English law that 'no Welshman is to own English land'.

My x4 great grandfather immigrated to Canada from Scotland after the potato famine there, caused by the Highland Clearances. He hailed from a small town in northwest Scotland called Scourie (or Scoury). He was crushed by a load of cordwood that he was hauling. His wife, Christina MacKenzie, eventually managed to get the family into New York, probably illegally, and that's where my family originated from the New World largely.
A few years ago we went to Scotland, drove for several days to get to Scourie. In the graveyard there we found the grave of John MacKay (mah-Kai is how it's properly pronounced), my x5 grandfather, who saw his son leave for Canada and stayed behind. Pretty profound moment for me.
