Golf Telecaster says "Lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley"

Quote:
Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman has apologized after saying during Friday's telecast of the PGA Tour's opening event that today's young players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley."

According to New York Newsday, a spokesman for the network said Tilghman apologized on Sunday's telecast and has reached out to Woods' representatives to express her regrets for the comments.

Tilghman, who played college golf at Duke, works as the main play-by-play announcer during The Golf Channel's PGA Tour telecasts.

So this sort of thing goes by with just an apology and Don Imus gets fired?

This country confuses me.

I don't see why that kind of comment even requires an apology. Is there one person in the world that thought she was being serious?

"Some nice weather out here today, eh John?"

"You said it Pat, what a great opportunity to go rape some cheerleaders."

Some people just understand common decency I guess, too bad you can't Echoes.

Says the guy who posts comments like "Someone upset that mommy is still turning tricks for nickels?" I understand common decency. I know she was just trying to be funny when she suggested Tiger should be lynched, the same way I think you were trying to be funny when you made your comment. Sometimes people just take things the wrong way. I bet even Tiger found it funny. I just don't get why people expend the energy getting so worked up over stuff that doesn't matter.

Are you serious kid?

"Haha, remember that joke about lynching me? That was a knee slapper!"

Dude, read your posts. Her comment was incredibly rude and uncalled for. Yes, humor is a great thing, but that sort of humor is just tasteless and mean.

You walk into class one day, look at your class and say, "We should lynch that black kid tomorrow!" If you walk off campus without a beating, I'll be surprised.

Way to blow everything out of proportion. And please don't call me kid again. I'm five years older than you are.

I used to know black guys who would turn to each other when a lot of white people were around and they said "Damn, we gonna get lynched!" So, if that can be a joke, I guess I can accept that an announcer can make a lynching joke and get away with it.

What I don't understand is why a racial joke against Tiger Woods, who I've heard is a multitude of races, or has said he has no race? Odd person to make a racial joke about, eh?

Lynching is a reference to blacks being lynched? I've always understood that as a racial joke, and a pretty bad one.

lynch = to put to death, esp. by hanging, by mob action and without legal authority

I highly doubt Kelly Tilghman meant to use "lynch" in a racist way. She seems like a pretty classy person, from what I've seen of her.
