Race Vs Culture

Caucasoid: Europe, West Asia and North Africa.

Mongoloid: East Asia, Oceania, the Arctic and the Americas.

Negroid: Sub-Saharan Africa.

Capoid: Southern Africa.

Australoid: Australia and Melanesia.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't see how people make the mistake that your race dictates your behaviour .. I see race as something distinctly different from culture .. just because your born with dark/light skin doesn't mean you will have an affinity for any kind of music, sport ect .. these things I feel are 100% based on your choices, not your parentage ..

Can anyone offer me an alternative viewpoint ? Explain to me how come so many folks seem to think that the racial group they fall under makes them behave in a different way than anyone else ?

Well, when you see white people in the media, they're golfing, or killing people. This contributes to the "crazy white guy" and "snotty well-to-do" stereotypes of whites.

When you see blacks in the media, they're shooting up neighborhoods or rapping, hence the whole "menace to society" and "gangbanging" or other similar stereotypes of black people.

When you see Asians in the media, it tends to be in a "geek" setting such as a job involving computers.

When you see Arabs in the media, they're terrorists.

I hate to sound like I'm blaming the media here, so let's take a deeper look. First, to define the media, it's movies, TV, music, video games, books, newspapers, radio, the internet, and probably a few more I missed. I think one of the main problems is people who assume and then just go with their assumptions.

Racism is based off the perception of those cultures! This world will always be perspectively based, and until people try to break away from the common image of their culture the perception will never change.

(My post # 420! *snickers* hehehehe! Where's the tokey?!)

I agree Merc MD that much of it is the product of bad press .. but how can people be so easily lead ? .. I mean it takes a pretty simple mind to believe that your skin pigment will dictate your behaviour no ? .. When we talk to somebody on the phone or on the net .. we don't ask .. what race are you ... so I can know how you think .. I mean that would be really really idiotic .. but as soon as people know what race somebody is, they allow stereotypes to cloud their reason .. what for .. don't people see the mistake in doing this ?

innocent until proven guilty anyone ?

You speak as if race is culture .. I don't see the sense in this .. culture is about behaviour .. not genetics !! You cant prejudge the behaviour of a person based on their racial origins .. thats racism !!

Well, I'm of the mindset that everyone is an idiot until proven otherwise. It makes life much easier and less surprising unfortunately.

Look around you....you go to school right? If so look in the halls....whose hanging out with who? Races tend to stick together. If you don't go to school, look around your neighborhood....is there one race more prominent in that area? Look in other neighborhoods aswell. Races stick together (which makes them cultural). Also look at other countries.....

you are confusing tribal behavior & culture ..

culture = choices
race = relatives

I went to high school in backwardsville PA & gangville DC ... I learned real fast how stupid running with the pack was .. & learned that prejudice = ignorance that can get you killed .. When I lived around mountain boys in PA, I had rep because I could keep straight & drive, think clear when everyone was freekin out .. when I lived in DC, around kids who owned oozies & sold crack, only went to school because they would be locked up if they didn't .. drove to school in Mercs & Beemers .. I earned rep because I didn't judge people by their skin tone, but by their honesty .. keeping it real kept my skin intact ..

Merc M, D .. I can see how you are more often right with that kind of attitude .. but I prefer to give people the benifit of the doubt & refrain from prejudging people until they prove themselves idiots ..

>.> A thread in response, eh? Race doesn't dictate anything, although certain aspects appear to be widely common among certain races than others. Your culture dictates how you act. Don't be fooled, your race can play a part in it, and you shouldn't bee foolish enough to deny that. However, it is not gene-related. Nothing like that is encripted into your genes. However, the same society can be divided between races because they can offer cultural differences.

You can't deny that race and culture do have to do with each other in at least certain ways. Again, nothing is encripted, but a lot of things are the way they are as a result of certain people being a certain race. I'm sure that you've heard of the racism and discrimination going on worldwide at the moment. In some places, "dark" is the new "amazingly horribly ugly," and they are treated differently (in some cases) because they are "dark" (many of them being a shade darker than the whitest wall on earth). But that is because of the whole "working class," "wealthy" class whatever. But that was decided by race, was it not?

Your culture dictates how you act. // this is quite backward .. IMo

You act in accordance to the culture you choose to take part in .. lets not be putting the cart before the horse now .. you have a choice how you act .. blaming your behaviour on your race .. or on the culture you choose to take part in .. is BS

To say that race & culture are irrevocably linked .. is to chain people to the behavior of other people who have the same genetic heritage .. its not cool judging people by their parents .. IMo

You are not a dog .. you do not have to do what your pack tells you to .. you have a choice .. whether you make it is up to you .. & if you don't, you have nobody to blame but yourself .. so far as I have found to be so ..
