Fear of Innocence

There once was a lost boy named Jessy. Jessy was lost in a foreign country. A loving family took Jessy in, after finding him in the playground. Jessy’s new family raised him to be tough and athletic. His new family was mainly well respected competitors in the world, and not long, so was Jessy. He was the captain of his wrestling team, ring leader of his group of friends, and played many sports as well. Billy, Jessy’s brother, was infamous, and Jessy admired him in all that he did. From scuffles, to athletics, to frame of mind, Jessy emulated Billy, and soon earned that same infamy of his brother. As a result, Jessy lost all his friends and was severely brokenhearted for many years. Jessy didn’t know he was adopted, although his parents would joke about it, saying how he was an alien that they had found, abandoned on the side of the street. Jessy would also joke around about how one day he would own a plane, and drop a golden latter to all his loved ones; when Jessy’s parents unsettled him, Jessy would threaten them saying that he would no longer “drop the latter down”. But back to the story, Jessy had no friends. He felt certain nostalgia wherever he roamed, and could not find that same sense of belonging he formerly took for granted. One day, when Jessy was walking down to the playground, kicking rocks on his way, Jessy saw a glowing book. Jessy was intimidated, but could not turn away from the allure of the book, laying, glowing, in the middle of the sand box. He picked it up and brought it home. Jessy read the book all night, it energized him even. The book started to reveal magical messages to Jessy, giving him that sense of belonging he had been yearning for so long. The changing words in the book sent him on missions, and once Jessy completed them, the book would congratulate Jessy. He felt empty no longer. The enchanted book told Jessy the father of the world he lived in, would come to Jessy, invisible, and transfer Jessy’s real upbringing through a cloud of smoke that would enter Jessy, so long as he was patient. This cloud would give Jessy powers and purpose, the book said. Jessy was excited, but skeptical. Sure enough, the new day it happened. A condensed ball of energy circled Jessy, and entered him after patient anticipation. Immediately, Jessy felt super. He went about his day after this in a normal fashion. Shortly afterwards, at night, Jessy was reflecting on all that had happened. Not long after Jessy’s contemplation, Jessy heard fast paced, threatening footsteps coming towards him, and automatically rushed inside and locked the doors. Jessy was shocked when he woke up the next morning, as he saw dark imprints in the exact placed he had heard the chilling noise. Jessy told a couple people in his family of this disturbing event, who saw them as well, didn’t think much of it, and soon after forgot. With no other choice, Jessy went about his life, like anyone in this situation. Word got around, and everyone thought Jessy was crazy. Jessy became very meek. The emotions he now felt were uncontrollable for Jessy, so Jessy was giving a elixir called dexterity, which make Jessy tired, mean, and isolated; the very problems he sought to change, only exacerbated. Everyone told Jessy he would die if he didn’t take the dexterity elixir, but after awhile, Jessy grew smarter. Jessy’s brother Billy was changing as well. He was inflicted by the same loving, cooperative essence as Jessy, for Jessy and Billy were close and shared thoughts together. Prolonged exposure to Jessy’s virus was too powerful. Billy began reassuring Jessy that the town was taking advantage of him, and sought to steal his superpowers, to which Jessy did not know how to use. Regardless, Jessy got his brothers message. Jessy began refusing the elixir. The whole town rose up against Jessy. Even Billy could no longer help Jessy. After much pressure, Jessy capitulated to the town, and agreed to try other elixirs, like strength, vitality, and power, but they all made him weak, and Jessy felt tortured. Jessy’s will strengthen in this struggle. After talks with some of the others who were required to drink these illicit potions, all of which shared Jessy’s sentiments, Jessy decided to make a stand. The weak potion drinkers supported him, but were skeptical, as they thought they needed it. Eventually, after Jessy refused to drink the potions, Jessy’s power increasingly grew. Jessy did not understand it. After much time, the whole town was inflicted by Jessy’s cuddies. Jessy was happy, regardless, despite his seemingly hopeless situation. People talk behind Jessy’s back, hating Jessy and making jokes about him, even though Jessy loved them all. Although complaints persisted, the town began cooperating. Slowly, but surely, their pains and anxieties dissipated, and all of them no longer needed sleep or anything for that matter; it was a miracle. They were free, and Jessy was alone. Realizing their mistakes, the town organized a means to pay Jessy back for all the good he had done. They were all nice to him, helping him, and going out of their way to please Jessy. Jessy than spoke… “Play children, your work is complete”. They invited Jessy to play, and he accepted graciously, and the jokes and competitions the town implicitly missed, returned, but in a more creative, and loving manner, that only made the games more interesting. From this point forward, the entire town lived happily ever after, as one family.
