This paper is retarded, I know. I wrote it a few years ago, and I wrote it like this to piss my teacher off. Yes, I know the sentence about Russia is factually incorrect. Many things are incorrect, and I did this on purpose.
The Robber Barons
Today we know them as billionaires. 100 Years ago we knew them as Robber Barons. Robber Barons are the rich industrialists and businessmen that ruin America’s economy by monopolizing production (Josephson 7). These greedy men exploit the working class and dominate the economy. They plunder their treasure like pirates killing and stealing as they go.
On a capitalist pirate ship, the captain and a few of the higher-ranking sailors would swindle the common pirate out of most of his booty. Just like the common man is shammed out of his money by the government and the corporations. Conversely, on a socialist pirate ship, all the booty (no matter how scarce it may be) is shared. The captain, even though he works harder than the others, receives the exact same amount of booty, therefore, no one is swindled in this deal.
Andrew Carnegie dominated the steel industry much like Bill Gates dominates the computer software industry today. Both of these men selfishly stole their wealth like pirates pillaging a helpless village of natives in the Caribbean. J.P. Morgan, the famous businessman responsible for the creation of General Electric (Schlieber 12), once said, “I owe the public nothing.” Proving his point, J.P. Morgan’s General Electric has done nothing to aid the public. Electricity never helped pirates, except music pirates. Cornelius Vanderbilt, a notable railroad baron, enforced back-breaking labor and paid his workers barely enough to survive. All for what? The expansion of the United States? Hardly worth it. These men, like terrorists, aimed to strike a weak point in the economy and create dissension and hardship for the American people.
Only in a capitalist society is the existence of Robber Barons possible. If America were socialist, this problem would never have arisen, and Americans would be happy, much like the Russians. Nazi Germany failed because of its capitalist virtues. Robber Barons in America will lead us down the same path: concentration camps. These concentration camps will most likely be owned and operated by real estate mogul Donald Trump.
Today’s Robber Barons are perfectly represented by the higher management of Enron. Instead of exploiting physical labor, these men exploited the stocks and retirement funds of their employees, sending their lives into disarray. Some even committed suicide. (Name deleted) said, “So we see that the end result of capitalism is death, for everything, especially old people and the environment.” Capitalism also destroys the lives and innocence of children. Capitalism teaches children to lie, steal, and exploit each other for personal gain. Today’s youth are evidence of this; they are the most morally bankrupt generation our corrupt nation has seen to date.
Capitalism is a legal version of slavery. The toil and downfall of the workingman promotes wealth for the leisure class. In the eyes of a Robber Baron an employee is no better than a slave. Men are forced to make a choice between living on the streets and starving to death or accepting slavery and barely clinging to a meager existence. If America were socialist, men would not be forced to make this choice. None would be forced to live on the streets, so long as there were certain people to pick up the slack. Just like Karl Marx said, “From those with ability, to those with need.”
Labor unions are the savior, the Jesus, of the common man. They are the only means by which the common man can fight back against the economical tyrants that are the Robber Barons. Men must band together for the greater good. If nobody works, there will be nothing for the Robber Barons to steal. Therefore, we should all strike, and the Robber Barons would be defeated.
Robber Barons negatively impact the economy. Robber Barons are responsible for monopolies, and with these monopolies they can control the prices, supply, and quality of a product. One or two corporations dominate most products these days. Every year we have less and less places we can go to get products. There used to be thousands of oil companies, movie rental stores, grocery stores, cable television/internet, and car companies (Wikipedia). Now just a few ultra rich, ultra powerful companies dominate each of these industries. In a socialist society, the government would control everything, therefore destroying all monopolies.
In conclusion, capitalists are plundering pirates that exploit the weak and the poor for their money. They use this money to create a vicious cycle of plundering that lasts generations. America is doomed to slavery until the working class throws off its bonds and becomes socialist. The government should run everyone’s lives, because people don’t know how to run their own lives.
