Musical Films
What do you think of musical movies?
Definition: film genre in which several songs sung by the characters are interwoven into the narrative. The songs are used to advance the plot or develop the film's characters
Excluding the animated movies, I mean.
I liked the old ones (post 50s) although they were mostly based on already existing theatre/stage shows. Thank you Rodgers and Hammerstein for Oklahoma, South Pacific, Carousel, King and I, and the best one...The Sound of Music!
This decade we have new batches of musical films. The ones I've watched and liked are Moulin Rouge, Chicago, 8 Femmes, Phantom of the Opera.
High School Musical and Dreamgirls have their ok moments but I didn't like them as much.
I still have to watch Across the Universe (I have a DVD) which my sister recommended given I love Beatles' songs.

I loved RENT, Fame, Sweeney Todd Chicago, and Rocky Horror [[ yes, it was a stage show first! ]], and I grew up on the Disney Classics - my favourite was Beauty and the Beast.
There are also DVDs of shows like Sweeney [[ with Angela Landsbury ]] and Into the Woods and Jekyll & Hyde.

I love musicals. Sound of Music is always fun. I love Newsies, and also, many of the classical musicals adapted for plays such as Phantom, Producers, Chicago, etc.

Moulin Rouge, Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and Across the Universe. I would have to say by far those are my favorites.

I've never been a fan of musical films. To be honest with you I find them rather boring and annoying. But I have to give credit to at least one and that's Mary Poppins, because Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews both did a wonderful job acting in this movie.

I liked Evita! Thanks DL for reminding me (no matter if it's not put in a favorable light).
