Bands / Artists Who Made A Bad First Impression On You
For me I can't think of a bigger example of this than The Killers. The first song I heared was "Somebody Told Me" which I thought was a very annoying, repetative song with some of the most childish lyrics I'd ever heared. However I later realised that Hot Fuss is a great album with literally dozens of great songs. "Somebody Told Me" is still the exception for me. Sams Town is another great album but I can pretty much leave everything they've done since that one. So what Bands or Artists made a bad first impresion on you but then redeemed themselves in your eyes? |

The only band I can think of where this has happened is The Cure. Someone I know loves them so they made me listen to 2 songs, and I thought they were rubbish. Well not rubbish, but just not my taste at all. I didn't bother listening to them again for several months, but then by chance I heard a different song from them and it sounded like a completely different band. Now, I can't find any songs by them I don't like apart from those 2 originals that I hated. Kinda strange.

I have to say The Offspring. The first song that I heard of theirs was Pretty Fly and I can't stand that song. Besides that one song, I'm hard pressed to find any of their other songs that I don't like.
Sublime comes to mind. I'm not a huge fan of the song Santeria(it's growing on me, though) but I like most of their other songs. This is harder than I thought it'd be because I generally don't give the band a second change if they blow their first. |

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
The first song I heard from them was unimpressive at best, so I never bothered to check them out at all. over a year later I found the video at the end of this post which uses a song by them. It then became imperative for me to find more and more music by them, and now many of my favorite songs are by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

Motley Crue.
I know I know probably a weird one. But I just couldnt get into them the first few times I heard 'em for the first few years I knew about 'em. Then eventually they just grew on me and I can really enjoy 'em. However I think a big reason for that is I just forced myself ot like them considering it happens to be my better half's favorite group hahaha. I had to laugh 'cause that was my band for the opposite of this thread

For me, it would be Silverchair. The first time I listened to them, I heard some of their new stuff, and thought it was absolutely horrible. As in, it made me want to stick hot pokers in my ears horrible, so I avoided them like the plague. Then I was listening to the radio and they were playing one of their older songs, and I was really surprised when I found out it was the same band. So i'll listen to their older stuff, but still avoid the newer stuff.

Kings of Leon. I can't remember which song of theirs I heard and didn't like but I decided not to listen to the rest of the album because of it. When they released their latest album I decided to give the whole thing a listen. Boy, was I impressed. I think they are a really good band and there isn't one song I don't like on that album.
