Well, this was just ignorant... Just because you do not appreciate the music doesn't mean they have no talent and they suck..
A lot of Death Metal musicians use more technical methods of playing than you could never imagine accomplishing.. Using insane time signatures and some extremely innovative techniques.
I don't really like how, say.. the banjo sounds, but I am not going to say that every person who plays the banjo sucks simply because it isn't a sound my ear appreciates. I am openminded enough to say that heck some of those people have talent that I couldn't pull off...
Sure.. It might not sound how you want your music to sound, but any average good charolette member or whatever little pop-punk band couldn't even touch the level that these guys play on.
However, thanks for enlightening us.

Anyway, Atreyu..
There are some really good Death metal bands out there, but it is an aquired taste.
If you like a hard sound, but not quite as hard as say Morbid Angel you might try something like Chimaira.. I would probably suggest the album Pass Out of existence to check out first. Some people may not agree, but I think they have a unique sound and they have some awesome lyrics (if that means anything to you). Decently heavy, but not to the extreme that many of these bands listed previously are.
Well if you're currently into just the Rock/Metal type bands I would highly recommend easing yourself into some Heavier stuff before you make the leap into Death Metal.
If you like Atreyu... try some of these bands to ease yourself into the curve
start with Avenged Sevenfold, mostly their older stuff; "sounding the seventh trumpet" is a great album and really holds true to some great heavy roots
Five Finger Death Punch has some good tunes, I agree with Steve in the sense that some of their Lyrics are F'ing mindless eg: "Zoltan Up in the Sky!!!!!" hahaha
I found the bands like "In Flames" are another easy transition from metal to death metal. They arent to heavy yet still manage to get the same message across.
Check out "Shadows Fall" and "All That Remains". I strongly recommend these two bands if you already like groups like Atreyu. Both those bands are fronted by the same guy who pulls off some great melodic and screamo vocals.

Avenged Sevenfold are incredible! I saw them live when Atreyu came to New Zealand. I might give those other bands a shot, thanks Ice!

yeah A7X is a great band, definitely one of my favorites.
They've gotten a little less heavy over the past few albums but I still really like 'em and recommend their older stuff to anyone wanting to stray away from the main stream rock.

Very true, even having an open mind to music I find some Death/Hardcore Metal bands hard to follow but I'll listen to them just to analyze the technique and unique riffs. Most of the time I'll end of loving the band after understanding their style.
The fact that these genres take time to appreciate and require listing to the songs several times to understand the lyrics makes me respect the style even more.
To the original poster, that was one hell of a band list you posted. You have good taste!
I am more a Black Metal guy, but my favorite Death Metal band is called Centinex. They are from Sweden. Unfortunately they broke up last year, but they played together 16 years and put out quite a few albums. Malleus Malificarum is the best one, in my opinion. (And I know I completely butchered the speeling of that album title.

Sweden has an abnormal amount of metal bands, and they are all freaking amazing. Like Meshuggah.. since no one has listed them
