Michael Jackson Debates

Yes, another MJ thread.

I figured it's better to make a thread just to focus on some controversies surrounding his life, than mixing it with the other one which I feel is more of a condolence thread.

What is your stance on these three issues:

1. Did Michael Jackson really have melanin removal treatments or do you believe when they said he suffers from vitiligo (a disease that affects skin pigmentation)?

2. Michael Jackson has been acquitted of all molestation charges (including conspiracy and alcohol). Do you think he's innocent or despite the exoneration, he deserves to be treated like a pedophile?

3. Does Michael Jackson deserve the tribute he's been getting in the past days?

1. I believe he had treatments because of the things his dad said to him. He denied having a lot of cosmetic surgery over the years but it's as clear as day to me.

2. I honestly never made my mind up about this. I heard him say in an interview once that he's not a sexual person. Apparently he was with a woman once and she was telling him all the things she wanted to do with him and he was laughing.
Then there was the time he admitted that young boys sleep over at his house but I just couldn't believe he would molest them. All of the signs pointed to yes but I guess I didn't want to believe it. I still don't know.

3. I believe so. He was a musical genius and deserves to be remembered for his music - even if he was a little crazy. He was a performer and sang with passion. Many people followed him throughout his entire career and got a lot of happiness from his music. His death will be talked about for many years - I have no doubt about that.

Both could be true. I don't know. Is there a meaningful distinction between the two??

I'm starting to wonder if Michael simply wasn't screwed by the media to sell ad time. Worse, I realized tonight that with all the accusations of "Freak!" there must have been times when he sat on the edge of his bed and sobbed, thinking that it must be true. No wonder he bought the Elephant Man's bones. He didn't want to dance with them, as tabloids reported him doing and he parodied in the "Leave Me Alone" video (which is probably my favorite of his visual works). He bought them because he was trying to tell us something. Quasimodo, Robert Merrick, Michael Jackson. Why didn't more people view him as a person deserving of the benefit of the doubt? Why didn't I? Is it suicide not to conform? I hope this all becomes part of the national discussion here, if not a topic that receives attention anew around the world.

Okay, he was never my cup of tea, but I will say this: the word "icon" doesn't describe Michael Jackson. No, Michael Jackson describes the word "icon." He really was that big. I see no reason we can't give him in death the respect we denied him in life.

The other one is doing it on purpose, the other happens whether you like it or not.

It matters because one of the reasons why some people think lowly of Michael Jackson was due to the belief that he did this black to white change on purpose. If he's really suffering from vitiligo then it's not fair to take that against him, is it?

There are early photos of him with his skin all blotchy which is a clear sign of the disease. I'm more inclined to believe that the whole melanin removal treatments took place after his vitiligo set in.

According to a doctor who psycho-analyzed him, he has the mindset of a ten year old. To me, that means that there's a very good chance that nothing actually happened sexually between him and those children and that it was harmless. However, we're very quick to blow the whistle on people these days without giving benefit of the doubt or more than two seconds thought. If you walked into a room and saw a grown man lying in bed with two children, you'd probably get freaked out. I'm not saying I believe 100% that he's innocent, he very well could have been inappropriate with those kids, but I think the important factor here to realize is his mental instability which stems from abuse as a child.

Without a doubt. Anyone who questions it is either jealous or one of those idiots who thinks that his personal issues trump the countless humanitarian efforts and milestones he hit within and for the music industry.

I really believe Michael Jackson had a disease, you slowly saw the changes in his faces after he got diagnose with vitiligo

I believe Michael Jackson was innoncent, you got to remember that he never got a childhood, is father use to wake him up at 3am just to practice dancing and singing. He didn't have time to do what normal kids do. I also believe he was an easy target. People saw him open Neverland Ranch and he invited all those kids to come and play there, so right there that gave him a bad reputation. Personally I don't believe he should be portrayed as a pedophile.

He deserves to get all the attention that he's received. He's arguably the most popular musicial of all time, he set the bar that no one as even come close to eclipse since he started singing. He made music video's a work of art, he was the great performer of all time. If anyone says he doesn't deserve all this attention or tribute he's been getting the last few days are simply wrong in my opinion.
