DREAM TEAM STATS.

The greatest sports team ever assembled? Few, if anyone, would argue. The 1992 Dream Team won by an average of 43.8 points, an Olympic record, and the closest a team came to challenging the U.S. was Croatia, which was beaten by 32. It was Charles Barkley and not Michael Jordan who led the Dream Team in scoring average (18) and field-goal (.711) and 3-point (.875) shooting percentages. Here is a numerical look at this majestic team.
0 – Number of timeouts called by head coach Chuck Daly during the eight games the Dream Team participated in in the 1992 Olympics

2.8 – John Stockton’s scoring average, 12th overall

15 – Number of total blocks by Patrick Ewing, which led the Dream Team

.365 – Opponents field goal percentage

37 – Number of total steals by Michael Jordan, which led the Dream Team

47 – Number of total assists by Scottie Pippen, which led the Dream Team

4.8 – Christian Laettner’s scoring average, 10th overall on the Dream Team

5.3 – Karl Malone and Chris Mullin’s rebounding average, which led the Dream Team

.578 --- Dream Team field goal percentage

7 – April 7, 1989, FIBA votes to allow NBA players to participate in international events, including the Olympic Games and the World Championship of Basketball. The final tally was 56 countries in favor of opening the competition, 13 opposed and one abstaining.

.711 – Charles Barkley field goal percentage (59 of 83), which led the Dream Team

8 --- Dream Team Olympic Record (8-0)

8 – Magic Johnson’s scoring average, ninth overall on the Dream Team

8.4 –Larry Bird’s scoring average, eighth overall on the Dream Team

.875 – Charles Barkley’s three-point field goal percentage (7 of , which led the Dream Team

9 – Scottie Pippen and David Robinson’s scoring average, seventh overall on the Dream Team

.90 – Christian Laettner’s free throw percentage (18 of 20) which led the Dream Team

9.5 – Patrick Ewing’s scoring average, sixth highest on the Dream Team

10.5 – Clyde Drexler’s scoring average, fifth highest on the Dream Team

12.9 – Chris Mullin’s scoring average, fourth highest on the Dream Team

13 – Karl Malone’s scoring average, third highest on Dream Team

14.9 – Michael Jordan’s scoring average, second on the Dream Team

18 – Charles Barkley’s scoring average, which led the Dream Team

32 – the closest, in points, an opponent came to the Dream Team in eight games during the Olympics (117-85 vs. Croatia in the gold medal game)

43.8 – average margin of victory, in points, in the Olympics

51.5 --- Average margin of victory in the Qualifying Tournament in Portland

103 – USA 103, Croatia 70

111 – USA 111, Germany 68

115 – USA 115, Puerto Rico 77

116 – USA 116, Angola 48

117 – USA 117, Croatia 85

117.3 – Dream Team scoring average

122 – USA 122, Spain 81

127 – USA 127, Lithuania 76

127 -- USA 127, Brazil 83

and stockton was injured for most of the tournament too!

Larry's Back was 88% done, he was nowhere near the player he was when he won 3 MVP's in a row.

Lattener was a throw in to have a college player on the team (not sure why they bothered though, Nique or Isiah should have been on the team)

Still it is the best team ever, but I can't help but think how good a team the U.S. could have assembled in the 60's
Bill Russell and Wilt at C
Bob Cousy, Jerry West, Oscar Robinson, Hal Greer in the backcourt
Elgin Baylor, Jerry Lucas, John Havlicek, Bob Pettit, Rick Barry in the frontcourt

that would be a very tough team to beat IMO.

The 1992 Dream Team was stacked and was also untouchable in so many ways possible. The fire power they had offensively and defensively was unheard of and probably can't be repeated. It would be interesting to see them compete in today's olympics with the europeen game being way more advance then it was 15 years ago. That 60's team would be a handful too and they'd have amazing stats maybe even better then the 1992 team had, but there's no one that compete against them because Basketball wasn't even known in other countries at the time. It would be really neat to see the 60's team face the 1992 Dream Team.

"How to hit home runs: I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball...The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball, and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can." Babe Ruth

It was amazing to see all that talent playing on the same team. I was in total awe when I watched those games. Their game was flawless in every aspect possible which made it impossible to even come close of beating this legendary team.

You totally right Baller it would be argubly the greatest match up of all time if the legends from the 60's faced up against the 1992 Dream Team. It's hard to say how the game would turn out because of the different style of game it was played back then compared to the style we play now.
