Press Release - NBA Commissioner David Stern announced today that Michael Curry has been named Vice President, Basketball Operations for the NBA. Curry has served as the Vice President, Player Development for the NBA Development League for the past 11 months.

In his new role, Curry will continue to oversee all of the D-League's player development programs and will also assume basketball operations responsibilities for the NBA, reporting to NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations, Stu Jackson. He will be based in the NBA headquarters in New York.

"Michael is widely respected by teams and players in both the NBA and the D-League for his knowledge of the game and his leadership qualities," said NBA President, League and Basketball Operations, Joel Litvin. "He has done a tremendous job for the D-League and this is a great opportunity for us to utilize his talents at the NBA level as well."

Curry retired from the NBA in 2005 after an 11-year career. From 2000 to 2004 he served as President of the National Basketball Players Association.

A native of Augusta, Ga., Curry majored in finance at Georgia Southern and earned his Masters degree in sports management from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2001. Prior to beginning his NBA career with Philadelphia in 1993, Curry played professionally in Europe and in the Continental Basketball Association and the United States Basketball League.
